Rivian R2 Order Invitations Begin June 9 as First Deliveries Approach

The wait for the Rivian R2 is almost over. After more than two years of anticipation, Rivian has officially confirmed that customer order invitations for the highly anticipated electric SUV will begin rolling out on June 9, with the first customer deliveries scheduled for the very same day.

The announcement marks a major milestone for Rivian as the company prepares to expand beyond the premium R1 lineup and bring a more affordable electric SUV to market.

Customers who placed reservations for the R2 will soon receive emails inviting them to configure their vehicle. Buyers will be able to finalize details such as exterior color, interior finishes, wheel options and available packages before locking in their order. According to Rivian, once an order is confirmed, deliveries are expected within two to six weeks.

To help reservation holders prepare, Rivian has already opened its online configurator, allowing customers to save and share their preferred R2 setups ahead of receiving an official invitation.

How Rivian Is Prioritizing R2 Orders

Rivian says order invitations will be sent in batches as production ramps up. The primary factors determining invitation timing are reservation timestamp and delivery location.

Customers located near Rivian Service and Demo Centers are expected to receive invitations sooner, helping the automaker streamline deliveries during the initial launch phase.

The company also confirmed several additional factors that may influence delivery timing:

Existing Rivian Owners Get Priority

Current owners of Rivian R1T and R1S vehicles will receive accelerated delivery timing for the R2. However, Rivian says it is balancing deliveries between existing owners and new customers to maintain fairness throughout the rollout.

Expiring Leases May Move Up the Queue

Reservation holders with leases ending soon may also receive earlier invitations. Customers can submit lease details through their Rivian account so the company can factor timing into the delivery process. Existing Rivian lease customers are automatically included.

Randomized Early Invite Groups

Rivian is also introducing a randomly selected group of reservation holders into earlier invitation batches. The automaker says this approach will help refine timing estimates and improve transparency as the ordering process scales nationwide.

Importantly, reservation holders who receive an invitation but are not ready to order immediately will retain their place in line. This is especially relevant for customers waiting for future trims, additional paint colors or upcoming technology options.

Launch Edition Arrives First

At launch, only the R2 Performance with Launch Package will be available to order. The Launch Edition includes Rivian’s Autonomy+ driver assistance package as standard equipment.

Additional trims are already planned for future release windows:

– R2 Premium is scheduled to arrive in late 2026
– R2 Standard is expected to follow in 2027

Customers who prefer to wait for future versions will still maintain their reservation priority once those variants become available.

One of the anticipated future additions includes Rivian’s lidar-equipped models, though the company has suggested that the technology’s full capabilities may still be several years away. Some reservation holders are also waiting for additional color options, including Rivian’s eye-catching Borealis purple finish.

Demo Drives Begin June 9

Alongside deliveries and order invitations, Rivian will also launch R2 demo drives starting June 9 at Rivian Spaces across the United States.

All customers will be able to schedule a test drive, though reservation holders who have already received ordering invitations will receive priority access. Demo drive availability will appear on Rivian’s website beginning June 9.

The R2 represents one of Rivian’s most important launches to date, targeting a significantly larger segment of the electric SUV market. With deliveries now just weeks away, the company is entering a crucial new phase as it looks to scale production and compete more directly with mainstream EV brands.

For reservation holders, June 9 is shaping up to be the beginning of the next chapter in Rivian’s expansion.
