DAF Begins Series Production of XG Electric and XG+ Electric Trucks

DAF Trucks has officially started series production of its new XG Electric and XG+ Electric heavy-duty trucks, expanding its growing lineup of zero-emission commercial vehicles for long-haul transport applications.

Built in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, the new electric truck models combine DAF’s latest battery-electric powertrain technology with a strong focus on efficiency, aerodynamics, and driver comfort. The first production vehicle — an XG+ Electric tractor rated at 350 kW (480 hp) — is set to join the fleet of German logistics company Hellmold & Plank.

The launch marks another major step in DAF’s electrification strategy, with the manufacturer now offering battery-electric trucks ranging from the 12-tonne XB Electric for urban deliveries to the XD, XF, XG, and XG+ Electric models designed for regional and long-distance operations.

Designed for Long-Haul Zero-Emission Transport

The XG Electric and XG+ Electric share the same advanced platform as the XD and XF Electric models, which were jointly named the International Truck of the Year 2026 thanks to their efficiency, refined driveline performance, and high levels of driver comfort.

Both new models are aimed at longer-distance logistics operations and feature DAF’s spacious cab design, offering up to 12.5 cubic metres of interior volume. The cab layout is designed to improve comfort during long working days, while also providing enhanced resting and sleeping space for drivers.

Aerodynamics also play a major role in improving overall energy efficiency. The optimized cab design helps reduce drag, supporting extended driving range and lower operating costs.

Up To 500 Kilometres Of Range

The XG Electric and XG+ Electric are powered by the PACCAR EX-D2 electric drivetrain, available with outputs ranging from 270 kW (370 hp) to 350 kW (480 hp). Maximum torque reaches 2,400 Nm.

Energy is supplied by up to five modular lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery packs mounted on the chassis. Depending on vehicle configuration and operating conditions, the trucks can achieve zero-emission driving ranges of more than 500 kilometres on a single charge.

The flexible chassis configurations allow the vehicles to be adapted for a variety of logistics applications, including regional distribution, shuttle transport, and long-haul freight operations.

Hellmold & Plank Expands Electric Fleet

German logistics specialist Hellmold & Plank continues to expand its fleet of electric DAF trucks as part of its broader sustainability strategy.

The family-owned company, which has operated for more than 120 years, already uses several DAF zero-emission models for applications including shuttle services and retail supply deliveries. In addition to the trucks themselves, the company also deploys PACCAR charging equipment as part of its transition to fully integrated electric transport solutions.

According to DAF Trucks President Harald Seidel, the start of production for the XG Electric and XG+ Electric demonstrates the company’s commitment to offering zero-emission transport solutions across a wide range of commercial applications.

As more logistics operators adopt battery-electric heavy-duty vehicles, the new XG Electric and XG+ Electric models position DAF as an increasingly important player in the rapidly evolving zero-emission trucking market.
