Zoox Robotaxis Coming to Uber App in Las Vegas and Los Angeles

Autonomous ride-hailing is taking a major step forward. Amazon subsidiary Zoox and Uber Technologies have announced a strategic partnership that will bring Zoox’s purpose-built robotaxis to the Uber platform, giving millions of riders access to autonomous transportation directly through the Uber app.

The partnership is scheduled to debut in Las Vegas this summer, with an expansion planned for Los Angeles by mid-2027.

Robotaxis Available Through the Uber App

Once the service launches, Uber riders may be matched with a Zoox robotaxi for eligible trips. The vehicles will operate seamlessly within the Uber platform, allowing riders to request an autonomous ride the same way they currently order a traditional ride-hailing service.

At the same time, Zoox will continue to run its own ride-hailing service through the Zoox app in both cities. This dual-platform approach will give customers multiple ways to access Zoox’s autonomous vehicles.

A Vehicle Designed Specifically for Ride-Hailing

Unlike many autonomous vehicles currently being tested on public roads, Zoox robotaxis are not modified passenger cars. Instead, they are purpose-built from the ground up for ride-hailing.

The vehicles were designed with passenger experience in mind—prioritizing comfort, social interaction, and a spacious cabin layout suited for conversations with friends or family during the ride. This dedicated design sets Zoox apart from competitors that rely on retrofitted vehicles.

Zoox’s First Third-Party Platform Partnership

The collaboration also marks a major milestone for Zoox. It’s the first time the company has partnered with an external platform to offer rides.

Zoox CEO Aicha Evans said the partnership reflects a shared vision for the future of transportation.

“We are excited to partner with Uber, a company that shares our vision for transforming mobility,” Evans said. “This partnership is an opportunity to continue advancing the use of autonomous mobility in daily life.”

Expanding the Future of Autonomous Mobility

For Uber, integrating Zoox robotaxis into its platform is another step toward expanding autonomous ride options for its massive user base.

Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi emphasized the uniqueness of Zoox’s vehicle design and its focus on safety and advanced self-driving technology.

“The Zoox robotaxi is unlike any other vehicle on the planet—it was purpose-built from the ground up to deliver an extraordinary experience,” Khosrowshahi said. “Zoox’s commitment to safety and advanced autonomous driving technology make them an ideal partner.”

What This Means for Riders

When the service launches, Uber users in Las Vegas will begin seeing Zoox robotaxis appear as an option for certain trips. If matched with one, riders will experience fully autonomous travel in a vehicle designed specifically for driverless ride-hailing.

With expansion to Los Angeles already planned, the partnership signals a broader shift toward autonomous ride services becoming a normal part of everyday urban transportation.

As robotaxi technology matures, collaborations like this could accelerate the arrival of a driverless future—one ride at a time.
