Jeep Recalls 11,767 Wagoneer S EVs for Potential Liftgate Defect

Stellantis has issued a recall for its all-electric Jeep Wagoneer S, impacting 11,767 vehicles across the 2024 to 2026 model years.

The recall, filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), centers on a seemingly small but potentially dangerous defect involving the SUV’s rear liftgate hinge covers.

According to official filings, the rear liftgate hinge covers may have been improperly installed during production. Due to insufficient design tolerances, these components might not clip securely into place and could detach while driving.

If that happens at speed, the loose part can become a road hazard—posing a risk to other drivers and increasing the chance of an accident. While no crashes or injuries have been reported so far, regulators consider the issue serious enough to warrant immediate action.

Which Models Are Affected?

The recall includes:

– Model years: 2024, 2025, and 2026
– Production period: March 21, 2024 – July 24, 2025
– Total units affected: 11,767 vehicles
– NHTSA recall ID: 26V141000

Stellantis has also temporarily halted sales of certain Wagoneer S units until the issue is resolved.

Warning Signs Owners Should Watch For

In some cases, drivers may notice early indicators that the hinge covers are not properly secured, including:

– Rattling noises from the rear of the vehicle
– Visible looseness or misalignment of the hinge covers

If you notice any of these symptoms, it’s best to schedule an inspection as soon as possible rather than waiting for official notification.

The Fix: Simple but Not Immediate

The good news? The repair is straightforward and will be carried out free of charge.

Dealers will:

– Inspect the liftgate hinge covers
– Re-secure them if intact
– Replace them with redesigned components if damaged or missing

In some cases, the fix may be as simple as properly clipping the covers back into place. However, Stellantis is also rolling out improved parts with tighter tolerances to prevent future issues.

There is one caveat: replacement parts are still being sourced, with full availability expected in Q2 2026.

What Owners Should Do Next

Owners of affected vehicles have several options:

– Check their VIN using the NHTSA recall lookup tool
– Contact their local Jeep dealer to schedule service
– Watch for official recall notices, expected to be mailed starting May 1, 2026

Early action is recommended, especially if symptoms are already present.
