Jaguar Pushes New Electric Four-Door GT to the Limit in Arctic Trials

Jaguar has begun extreme cold-weather testing of its upcoming all-electric luxury four-door GT, pushing prototypes to their limits in temperatures as low as –40°C inside the Arctic Circle.

The new electric GT is part of the most extensive validation program in Jaguar’s history, involving around 150 prototype vehicles covering hundreds of thousands of miles worldwide. Testing spans frozen lakes in Sweden, hot desert highways, and advanced virtual simulations, ensuring the vehicle performs consistently across all climates and driving conditions.

Built to Be a True Driver’s EV

According to Jaguar, the winter testing effort is designed to validate every major system before production begins. The company is combining large-scale virtual testing and laboratory rig evaluations with real-world road testing—an approach more comprehensive than any previous Jaguar program.

Winter testing plays a key role in refining the vehicle’s driving behavior. Engineers are calibrating the four-door GT’s drive modes on ice and snow to ensure predictable handling, smooth power delivery, and ride comfort—critical factors for a high-performance electric luxury vehicle.

Over 1,000 HP and Tri-Motor AWD

The upcoming electric GT will be the most powerful Jaguar road car ever produced, delivering more than 1,000 HP. Power comes from an advanced tri-motor all-wheel-drive system, featuring Intelligent Torque Vectoring that can distribute torque to each wheel with exceptional precision.

This setup is designed to improve traction, stability, and driver confidence, particularly in low-grip conditions such as snow and ice, while maintaining engaging on-road dynamics.

Precision Engineering, Down to the Last Detail

As testing continues, Jaguar engineers are putting final touches on a wide range of chassis and handling systems. These include: all-wheel steering, dynamic air suspension, active twin-valve dampers, and a bespoke 23-inch winter tyre developed specifically for this car.

All of these elements work in harmony with the propulsion and torque control systems to deliver composed handling, impressive grip, and a level of ride comfort expected from a true luxury GT—even on ice.

Smarter Cold-Weather Efficiency

Extreme cold also provides the perfect environment to validate Jaguar’s new ThermAssist technology. This advanced thermal management system is designed to reduce cabin heating energy consumption by up to 40 percent.

Even in temperatures as low as –10°C (14°F), ThermAssist can recover and reuse heat to warm the cabin or propulsion system, helping to preserve driving range when EVs traditionally struggle the most. It’s a crucial piece of technology for making high-performance electric cars genuinely usable year-round.

A New Era for Jaguar

Set to make its world premiere later this year, the all-electric four-door GT represents a major turning point for Jaguar. Its design will follow the exuberant modernist direction previewed by the Jaguar Type 00 design vision, blending dramatic styling with cutting-edge electric performance.
