Lucid Air Grand Touring Dominates the Coldest EV Test on Earth

When winter shows no mercy, electric vehicles often face their toughest challenge. Freezing temperatures, snow-covered roads, and long-distance driving are the ultimate stress test for EV range. This year in Norway, Lucid Group proved just how far efficiency and engineering can go—even when the thermometer plunges deep into the red.

During the 2026 Norges Automobil-Forbund (NAF) Winter Test, also known as the famous “El Prix,” the Lucid Air Grand Touring delivered a jaw-dropping performance. In the coldest Winter Test ever recorded, with temperatures dropping as low as –31°C, the luxury electric sedan traveled 520 kilometers on a single charge—without stopping to recharge.

To put that into perspective, the next closest competitor managed just 421 kilometers, nearly 100 kilometers behind.

Real Roads, Real Winter, Real Results

The test route was anything but gentle. Starting in Oslo, the Lucid Air Grand Touring faced a demanding mix of city traffic, highways, winding mountain roads, and secondary rural routes, eventually climbing into Norway’s scenic highlands. Snowy surfaces and brutal cold made this a true real-world trial, not a lab experiment.

Lucid’s European President, Lawrence Hamilton, summed it up best:
“It’s fair to say that the Lucid Air Grand Touring is the king of range—even under extreme winter conditions. This test highlights how far EV technology has come and shows what’s possible when efficiency is pushed to the limit.”

Why the Lucid Air Grand Touring Stands Apart

At the core of this achievement is Lucid’s proprietary electric powertrain technology, designed with efficiency as the top priority. Under ideal conditions, the Lucid Air Grand Touring offers a WLTP-rated range of up to 960 kilometers, with a remarkably low energy consumption of 13.5 kWh per 100 km.

Performance hasn’t been sacrificed either. The sedan produces 611 kW (831 PS), reaches a top speed of 270 km/h, and still manages to recharge incredibly fast—adding up to 400 kilometers of range in just 16 minutes under optimal fast-charging conditions.

Inside, the car offers seating for up to five passengers, wrapped in a spacious, premium interior built from high-quality materials—proving that long range and luxury can coexist.

A Record-Breaking Streak

This winter victory wasn’t a one-off. The Lucid Air Grand Touring has been quietly rewriting the EV record books.

– NAF Summer Test 2025: Achieved 828.6 kilometers, smashing the previous record of 672 kilometers set in 2023.
– GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS: Holds the title for the longest journey by an electric car on a single charge, covering an astonishing 1,205 kilometers in July 2025.

Together, these milestones paint a clear picture: Lucid isn’t just competing on range—it’s redefining what’s possible.

What Is the NAF Winter Test?

Held twice a year, the NAF tests—organized by Norway’s Automobile Federation and Motor, the country’s leading automotive magazine—are considered the most realistic EV evaluations in the world.

All vehicles start fully charged and drive the same route, passing through Oslo, Lillehammer, and Dombås. The final stretch between Hjerkinn and Rondane Gjestegård is repeated until each car can no longer maintain the required speed. In this year’s winter edition, 24 electric vehicles took part.
