BYD SEAL 6 DM-i and SEAL 6 DM-i TOURING awarded five-star Euro NCAP safety rating

THE BYD SEAL 6 DM-i saloon and its estate sibling, the BYD SEAL 6 DM-i TOURING, have been given a maximum five-star safety score in the latest set of test results published by Euro NCAP. The rating for the two models further adds to their comprehensive abilities as efficient long-range options for family-car customers.

Europe’s most stringent independent evaluation of vehicle safety is split into four areas of evaluation – and the SEAL 6 DM-i performs well in all of them. It picks up a 92% rating in Adult Occupant protection, with a maximum score in both the side barrier test and the more severe side pole impact. And 90% in Child Occupant Protection is earned through maximum points in both the frontal offset and side barrier tests.

In the other two areas of the assessment, which study protection for vulnerable road users and safety-assistance features, the SEAL 6 DM-i and SEAL 6 DM-i TOURING score 84% and 85% respectively. Euro NCAP praises the car’s BYD-developed driver-assistance systems, describing them as “excellent”.

Executive Vice President of BYD Stella Li said: “It’s part of our DNA as a technology company to never compromise on safety. And the latest five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP is yet more proof of how this approach delivers excellent results for our customers. Buyers of the SEAL 6 DM-i and SEAL 6 DM-i TOURING can be assured that they’re not only buying an efficient, practical vehicle with excellent EV range and combined range of more than 1,500km. They’re also getting a car that has protection and safety at its heart, alongside exciting technologies that they can enjoy every time they drive. This is another great example of BYD making these innovations accessible to consumers.”

The SEAL 6 DM-i’s verdict is the ninth maximum Euro NCAP rating to be picked up by BYD since the brand made its debut in the European passenger-car market in 2022. The latest achievement follows a similar score for the ultra-accessible DOLPHIN SURF, along with the five-star DOLPHIN, ATTO 3, SEAL, SEAL U, SEAL U DM-i, TANG and SEALION 7.

Introduced to European dealerships in September, the SEAL 6 DM-i and SEAL 6 DM-i TOURING bring Super Hybrid with DM technology to the saloon and estate markets. The SEAL 6 DM-i offers up to 65 miles of pure-electric range and a combined range, on a full tank and a full charge, of up to 935 miles.

The SEAL 6 DM-i TOURING has as much as 1535 litres of luggage capacity, yet it is still capable of 62 miles on electric power alone and brings a combined range of up to 839 miles. Both models are packed with BYD’s trademark useful technologies, including Vehicle-to-Load for powering external devices, NFC smartphone access to the car and 12.8- or 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreens.
