DPD is expanding its electric delivery fleet with 341 Mercedes-Benz eSprinter electric vans, as the UK parcel delivery company accelerates its transition toward lower-emission operations ahead of the busy Christmas season.
Mercedes-Benz Vans UK has confirmed that DPD selected dealer eStar to supply the new electric vans as part of a wider fleet agreement. The vehicles are scheduled to enter service from September, with the entire order expected to be operational by the end of October.
The rapid deployment will give DPD additional electric delivery capacity just as parcel volumes typically increase across its nationwide network.
The Mercedes-Benz eSprinter will play an important role in DPD’s ongoing fleet electrification strategy. The company operates deliveries seven days a week throughout the year, making vehicle availability and reliability critical to its operations.
DPD’s Head of LCV, Rob Dawson, said the company is pleased to continue its relationship with Mercedes-Benz Vans as it invests in a more sustainable fleet.
One of the key factors behind the agreement is the ability to deploy a large number of vehicles within a relatively short timeframe. With the first vans arriving in September and all 341 scheduled to be in operation by the end of October, DPD will have the additional capacity in place before peak Christmas demand.
All 341 electric vans will be covered by Mercedes-Benz ServiceCare Complete, providing repair and maintenance support through the manufacturer’s nationwide dealer network.
For a major delivery operator such as DPD, keeping vehicles on the road is just as important as reducing emissions. Unplanned downtime can quickly affect delivery schedules and increase operating costs, particularly during periods of exceptionally high demand.
Mercedes-Benz connected vehicle technology will also support the fleet by allowing a vehicle to alert DPD and its nominated dealer when attention may be required. This can enable maintenance work to be planned in advance rather than waiting for a problem to take a vehicle out of service.
The approach is similar to predictive maintenance systems used in other industries, where vehicle data can help identify potential problems before they become more serious and lead to costly downtime.
eSprinter Supports DPD’s Electrification Push
The latest order further expands DPD’s use of electric vehicles as the company works to reduce emissions from its delivery operations.
The Mercedes-Benz eSprinter is designed for commercial operators that need a combination of electric driving capability, cargo capacity and fleet-focused support. For DPD, the combination of the electric vans and nationwide aftersales coverage is intended to provide both lower-emission deliveries and the reliability required for a high-volume logistics operation.
With all 341 Mercedes-Benz eSprinters expected to be deployed before the Christmas peak, the order represents a significant addition to DPD’s electric fleet and another step in the company’s broader transition toward more sustainable last-mile deliveries.
