Hongqi HS6 PHEV SUV Goes 1,446 Miles on a Single Tank and Charge

FAW’s premium brand, Hongqi, has just achieved a remarkable feat that puts its new HS6 PHEV SUV on the map—and in the record books.

The Hongqi HS6 PHEV has officially set a Guinness World Record for the longest distance traveled by a plug-in hybrid vehicle without energy replenishment.

The 2,327.343 kilometers (1,446 miles) journey began in the legendary city of Shangri-La and ended in Guangzhou, passing through major cities like Kunming, Baise, and Wuzhou. This incredible endurance run was completed using only the vehicle’s initial, single full tank of fuel and its fully charged battery. It’s a powerful demonstration of both the vehicle’s endurance and its impressive fuel efficiency in real-world driving conditions.

The HS6 PHEV isn’t just about setting records; it’s a showcase of modern hybrid engineering.

The core is a highly efficient 1.5-liter turbocharged engine, delivering 110 kW (148 hp) a 225 Nm of torque, boasting a stellar thermal efficiency of 45.21%. Combined system power outputs are 168 kW (225 hp) for the two-wheel drive version and 369 kW (495 hp) for the four-wheel drive variant.

Both variants share a top speed of 205 km/h (127 mph). Depending on the battery choice of 23.9 kWh or $39.5kWh, the vehicle offers impressive CLTC pure electric ranges of up to $250 (155 miles). Crucially, the total comprehensive range reaches up to an astonishing 1,650 km (1,025 miles) on a full hybrid loadout!

This plug-in hybrid powertrain is particularly valuable in a vast market like China, where the ability to seamlessly switch between electric efficiency for daily trips and fuel flexibility for cross-country drives is essential due to varied charging infrastructure.

Inside, Hongqi delivers a modern, tech-focused cabin that aligns with its premium aspirations. The driver and passengers are greeted by a striking dual-screen layout, featuring a large central control display paired with a dedicated co-pilot entertainment screen. This is complemented by a crisp digital instrument cluster and a stylish three-spoke multifunction steering wheel.

While pre-sales are kicking off in China on November 15th, Hongqi’s ambitions are decidedly global. The brand has clear plans for international expansion into markets like Europe and the Middle East.
