Jeep Recalls Nearly 92,000 Grand Cherokees Over Software Glitch

Jeep is recalling a massive number of Grand Cherokee plug-in hybrids due to a software issue that could cause the vehicle to unexpectedly lose power.

The recall, issued by Chrysler, affects 91,787 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe vehicles from the 2022 to 2024 model years.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the problem lies with the “hybrid control processor.” A software error in this component can lead to a sudden “loss of drive power,” increasing the risk of a crash without warning.

As of mid-August, Jeep has not received any reports of crashes or injuries related to this defect. The company is currently working on a fix for the problem.

If you own a 2022-2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee plug-in hybrid, here’s what you need to know:

  • Check your VIN: Starting September 11, you can check if your vehicle is part of the recall by entering your VIN on the NHTSA’s website.
  • Keep an eye on your mail: Owners of affected vehicles will receive recall notification letters starting October 23.
  • Contact customer service: You can also call Chrysler’s customer service at 1-800-853-1403 for more information.
