Audi Recalls Q5 PHEV and A7 PHEV Models for Overheating Battery Issue

Audi is recalling several thousand units of the Q5 PHEV and the A7 PHEV due to a risk of battery pack overheating, which could lead to fires.

This problem affects 4,616 specific models, consisting of 2022-2023 Audi Q5 PHEV SUVs built between August 10, 2021 and December 10, 2022, as well as 2022 A7 PHEVs produced between July 2, 2021 and May 4, 2022.

The defect has been traced to Samsung SDI cells in the high-voltage batteries.

Audi is not aware of any injuries, crashes, or fires related to the battery fault in the United States.

Audi dealers will install advanced diagnostic software as the final remedy, anticipated to be available in the second quarter of 2025. The automaker will monitor available online vehicle data and contact owners as necessary, to advise them not to charge the vehicle until the battery can be replaced. For vehicles in which online data is unavailable, owners are advised not to charge their batteries until the final remedy becomes available.

Repairs will be performed free of charge. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, are expected to be mailed January 24, 2025. A second notice will be sent once the final remedy is available. Owners may contact Volkswagen Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Volkswagen’s number for this recall is 93AA.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or go to nhtsa.gov.
