Austin, Texas-based Tesla exceeded analyst expectations for deliveries in the second quarter of 2024. This comes after Wall Street had adjusted their forecasts downward.
The electric carmaker delivered 422,405 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles, its core models, between April and June. They also delivered 21,551 units of other EVs, including the Model X, Model S, and Cybertruck (released in November 2023).
Overall, Tesla delivered 443,956 electric vehicles, a slight decrease (almost 5%) compared to the 466,000 delivered in Q2 2023. However, this surpassed analyst estimates of 436,000 units.
This strong performance allowed Tesla to retain the global sales lead for purely electric vehicles, edging out Chinese automaker BYD who reported 426,000 EV sales (a 21% year-over-year increase).
Tesla’s production numbers also paint a mixed picture. While they manufactured 410,831 units (including 388,576 Model 3 and Model Y), this falls short of the 479,700 units produced in the same period last year.
Financial results for Q2 2024 will be released by Tesla after market close on July 23, 2024.
