Porsche is recalling Taycan electric vehicles worldwide due to a potential issue with the front brake hose that might crack and leak brake fluid, leading to reduced braking power. The recall includes Taycan models from 2020 to 2025. In the United States, nearly 32,000 Taycans are affected.
The issue stems from compression of the front brake hoses during specific steering and driving maneuvers. Over time, this compression damages the inner lining of the hoses, causing them to become inflexible and crack. Leaking brake fluid is the result.
If you experience a brake fluid leak, warning messages like “Brake Fluid Low” or “PSM Failure” will appear on your dashboard.
Porsche will notify dealers on July 3rd and owners on August 16th. Dealers will replace the front brake hoses with a redesigned version featuring a larger bending radius to minimize stress during driving. This repair will be free of charge, and Porsche will reimburse owners who have already paid for the fix.
Although Porsche acknowledges the potential for front brake failure, they emphasize that the rear brakes remain functional.
No accidents in the US have been linked to this issue, Porsche is unaware of any accidents in the U.S. but does know of a crash that happened elsewhere where a Taycan was traveling at roughly 120 km/h (74 mph) in a 30 km/h (18 mph) zone.
