Mazda MX-30 to gain rotary engine range-extender

Mazda is set to debut a new version of the MX-30 electric crossover at the Brussels Motor Show, featuring an electric generator powered by a newly-developed rotary engine.

Mazda has described the newly-developed rotary engine as “reborn for the electric age” that will produce energy for the vehicle’s electric motor instead of providing power directly to the wheels.

Mazda said the new MX-30 with plug-in hybrid powertrain will be available for in Europe starting this spring.

Along with this announcement, Mazda revealed a new logo for the MX-30, featuring a triangle that mimics the shape of a rotary engine letter ‘e’ inside, alluding to electric power.
