Cadillac Begins LYRIQ All-Electric SUV Presales in China

Cadillac has started presales of the LYRIQ, its first all-electric SUV, in China. In just one hour, more than 1,000 preorders were received – which is equivalent to one LYRIQ ordered about every three seconds.

The price of the long-range luxury model is RMB 439,700 ($68,800 USD). Customers can place their order through Cadillac’s IQ app or WeChat mini-program with a deposit of RMB 1,190 ($186 USD).

Those who preorder and purchase a LYRIQ by the end of April 2022 will receive additional benefits such as 10,000 kilometers of free public charging, a daily range-relevant gift for logging on to the Cadillac IQ app, a choice of special exterior colors and prioritized delivery starting in mid-2022.

“For more than a century, the innovative spirit of daring to go beyond has been part of Cadillac’s DNA,” said Wang Yongqing, president of SAIC-GM. “Cadillac is embracing change. Leveraging the brand’s proud heritage and industry-leading innovative technology, the LYRIQ is destined to set a new standard for luxury electric vehicles.”

The LYRIQ is the first SAIC-GM model built on GM’s Ultium platform. It represents the start of Cadillac’s transition toward intelligent battery-electric vehicles (BEVs).

With a length of more than 5.0 meters and a wheelbase of nearly 3.1 meters, the LYRIQ is positioned as a mid-large SUV. The rear-drive long-range luxury model, the initial model, has a China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC) range of over 650 kilometers. It supports fast charging – a 10-minute charge can increase its range by 96 kilometers.

The LYRIQ has forward-looking aesthetics, with flowing lines. The exterior features 736 LED light sources. A high-tech 1.8-meter ultra-large black grille, and vertical LED headlights and LED taillights, give it a futuristic and charming look. A 1.83-square-meter panoramic glass dome extends to the roof spoiler, adding to the aesthetics and aerodynamic performance.

The interior presents a perfect synergy of technological innovation and luxury. Laser-etched patterns, detailed knobs and 26-color ambient lighting underscore the combination of technology and art.

A focal point of the interior is the LYRIQ’s 33-inch diagonal advanced LED display with 9K ultra-high resolution that can display up to a billion colors. The AKG 19-speaker Studio System creates an intelligent, immersive and luxurious occupant experience using cutting-edge technology such as Quantum Logic surround sound. Users will also enjoy 5G connectivity for smooth human-machine interaction.

In addition, the LYRIQ is equipped with GM’s next-generation Super Cruise, which integrates automatic and command-based lane changing. It is capable of receiving over-the-air (OTA) updates to continuously improve the intelligent, safe and convenient driving experience.

Safety was a priority of the design team. The LYRIQ features a maximum ASIL-D standard battery, electric motor and electronic control systems. The reinforced physical battery protection architecture was put through more than 3.2 million hours of testing.

The vehicle itself was designed in line with the highest Chinese and U.S. collision standards. Hot-formed, high-strength and ultra-high-strength steel accounts for 75% of the body and 99.9% of the battery casing, for excellent passive safety protection. With radar sensors and cameras that monitor the surroundings in real time, the in-vehicle active safety assistance system automatically applies emergency braking during dangerous situations.

In addition to launching LYRIQ presales, Cadillac is opening six Cadillac IQ Spaces in five Chinese cities. The facilities provide a one-stop brand experience with viewing, selection and ordering.
