Japanese automaker Subaru announced new information and images of the upcoming Subaru Solterra EV Crossover.
The Solterra, which was named by combining the Latin words for “Sun” and “Earth,” is the most technologically advanced Subaru yet. Built on the e-Subaru Global Platform co-developed with Toyota, the all-new SUV offers ample back-seat and cargo room.
The e-Subaru Global Platform all-electric vehicle architecture is designed to be highly adaptable to allow for vehicles of different lengths and can be used for front, rear and four-wheel-drive layouts, thanks to the ability to fit motors to both axles. It can also accept multiple battery sizes.
The Solterra will be visually and mechanically similar with recently revealed Toyota BZ4X electric crossover, with which it will share a platform and powertrain. Both EVs are being jointly developed as part of a wider partnership between the Japanese companies.
Packed with advanced safety technology, the versatile and capable Solterra is built from Subaru SUV DNA, including legendary Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and plenty of ground clearance.
The Subaru Solterra electric SUV – the natural evolution of Subaru all-weather, all-road performance – is scheduled to go on sale in 2022.
Powertrain, battery and range details aren’t yet available.
