AAA Car Subscription Deploys 55 Volkswagen e-Golf EVs as Part of Electrify America’s Sacramento Green City Initiative

Electrify America and AAA Car Subscription announced they’re deploying 55 Volkswagen e-Golf electric vehicles available for short-term use in the Sacramento area.

The program is another facet of Electrify America’s commitment to advance an electric mobility lifestyle for residents in California’s capital region and introduces a new alternative to traditional car ownership.

Through AAA Car Subscription EV service, members can now get a 2018 Volkswagen e-Golf with insurance, repairs, maintenance and emergency roadside assistance all for one monthly subscription fee.

“Our association with Electrify America is making it easier than ever to enjoy the benefits of driving an electric vehicle and includes additional discounted options for low income and disadvantaged communities,” said Matt Alfano, Vice President Mobility Innovation of AAA Northern California, Nevada & Utah.  “AAA Northern California has been helping keep drivers on the road for more than 100 years and now we’re making it easier for drivers to experience the freedom and advantages of driving an electric vehicle.”

Terms range from three months to a year, with a number of monthly mileage options to choose from, allowing drivers to match their subscription to their lifestyle and needs.  AAA Car Subscription EV delivers the car to a member’s door with a zero contact experience. When the subscription term ends, members have the option to seamlessly renew or simply return the vehicle. With Electrify America’s support, the AAA subscription program offers substantial discounts for residents of low-income and disadvantaged communities, making the service one of the most affordable options to get Sacramento residents in an EV for about $11 a day.

“Electrify America’s investments in Sacramento are intended to increase access to zero-emissions vehicles (ZEV) for area residents, expand ZEV technology use, and prepare the city for future electric vehicle adoption,” said Rich Steinberg, Senior Director, Marketing, Communications and Green Cities at Electrify America.

AAA Car Subscription EV service is part of Electrify America’s investment of more than $40 million in a comprehensive Green City initiative in Sacramento, which is designed to shift transportation choices to electric mobility. The Sacramento-based initiative was the first in the nation for Electrify America, providing Sacramento with one of the highest per-capita density of Electrify America ultra-fast chargers in the nation and offering local EV drivers an abundance of options to charge on the go even if they do not have a home charging solution.

With the addition of AAA’s Car Subscription EV service, Electrify America’s Green Cities investment in Sacramento now encompass a car sharing program operated by Envoy for residents residing primarily in lower income and disadvantaged housing communities, a city-wide on-demand free-floating car sharing service operated by Gig Car Share, new public transit EV bus and micro-shuttle programs with support from the Franklin Boulevard Business District and operated by Sacramento Regional Transit and Yolo County Transit District, and more than  13 state-of-the-art electric charging sites with 58 total charging dispensers throughout the Sacramento area.

“The AAA Car Subscription EV service offers a unique opportunity for drivers considering a shift to electric vehicle transportation to try an EV for just a few months to see if it is the right fit for their lifestyle,” said Steinberg. “We are delighted to have AAA Northern California join our Green Cities initiative, further expanding our ZEV transportation choices and ultra-fast charging options in the Sacramento area.”
