Strong June performance for Renault ZOE despite industry-wide challenges

Renault UK announced a strong June sales performance for the New ZOE with the award-winning model finishing second in the UK EV market for the month.

The 947 registrations, achieved in its first full months of deliveries, put the all-electric supermini second in June’s UK EV car market, with 10.64% of the EV car market share, according to the latest figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturer and Traders (SMMT). This strong performance means New ZOE registrations are up to 1,400 in 2020, only 122 units less year-to-date compared with the same time period last year, all achieved during the UK’s recent lockdown restrictions and dealer closures.

Despite retailers being closed the entirety of May and only reopening at the start of June, demand for the New ZOE remained strong. Despite reports of some manufacturers struggling to deliver full-electric vehicles to meet demand, thanks to established supply chains, Renault UK was able to satisfy strong customer demand for ZOE. With healthy stock in dealers and the factory pipeline customers can acquire a New ZOE as quickly as they could a traditional internal combustion vehicle.

While overall registrations in the UK were down by 34.9%, all-electric vehicles increased from 2,461 in June 2019 to 8,903 in June 2020, representing an increase of 261% year-on-year, according to data from the SMMT.

The strong performance was replicated right across Europe, with a record number of 10,944 New ZOEs registered, an increase of 107% compared to June 2019. This impressive demand for Groupe Renault’s 100% electric vehicles, combined with the introduction of the E-TECH range of Plug-in Hybrid and Hybrid models, will allow Groupe Renault to reach its Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFÉ) objectives.

Award-winning new model

With its new 100kW R135 electric motor and new 52kWh battery, the New Renault ZOE delivers enhanced acceleration along with up to 245 miles (WLTP) all-electric range on a full charge. At the same time, a new 50kW DC charging option, will re-charge the battery from 0 to 80 per cent capacity in just one hour and ten minutes. There’s a mature and confident exterior design while the interior features more premium materials and finishes throughout for added comfort. The latest technology includes a 10-inch TFT instrument cluster, while a new 9.3-inch portrait-format central touchscreen is available on selected models.

Renault has given buyers even more ways of browsing and buying their vehicle with a selection of online tools. The New ZOE is the most popular vehicle in The Renault Virtual Showroom, with buyers receiving a full walkaround and detailed overview of a vehicle from a Renault guru whilst in the comfort of their own home. The Online Stock Reservation then enables them to reserve a car and have it delivered to their local dealership, while the Remote eSign Portal means buyers can complete and sign off finance documents from the comfort of their own home.
