Outlander PHEV sales in the UK up 8% in financial year 2018

Mitsubishi Motors in the UK finished the financial year (1 April 2018 – 31 March 2019) with sales of passenger vehicles totalling 20,675 for the period, up 22% over the previous financial year.

The increase in sales can be partly attributed to the introduction of the new Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross and Shogun Sport in the past financial year, along with the growing popularity of other models such as the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV which increased 8% and the Outlander Petrol and Diesel models which increased 15%.

The Mitsubishi Outlander once again proved to be the UK’s best-selling Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle with sales totalling 1,116 units for the month of March and 8,278 for the full financial year. In doing so the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV secured a 19% share of the UK’s total plug-in hybrid vehicle market, making it not only the segment’s best-seller but also the most popular plug-in vehicle of any kind in the UK.

The sustained popularity of the Outlander PHEV has seen 44,605 vehicles registered in the UK since the launch in 2015, contributing to its position as the global leader in the PHEV market.

Sales of vehicles in the Mitsubishi commercial vehicle range, including the L200 pick-up, contributed a further 10,600 sales bringing the brand’s total vehicle sales to 31,275 for the period, an increase of 15% over the previous year and the highest number of registrations for the company in twelve years.

Sales of the Mitsubishi L200 pick-up totalled 2,371 units in March, a 23% increase compared to the March 2018 volume of 1,924 units. This increase in sales year on year has been accomplished in a total UK pick-up market that increased by 6.7%. On a year-to-date basis, sales for the Mitsubishi L200 are up 37.7% over the same period last year, in a market that has increased 7.2%, making it the second best-selling pick up in the UK. The Mitsubishi L200 also had a critically successful 2018, winning a fourth consecutive Auto Express ‘Pick-up of the Year’ award, along with being named ‘Best Pick-up’ by both Carbuyer and Parkers.

Toby Marshall, Director of Sales and Marketing, Mitsubishi Motors in the UK said “We are happy to have had a strong March and a strong close to the financial year. The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and L200 pick-up are two very important models for us and it’s very pleasing to see them performing so well.”
