BMW Group sold 60,660 plug-ins year-to-date, up 42%

June deliveries of BMW Gropu’s plug-in vehicles totalled 13,806 vehicles worldwide, an increase of 47.6% on the same month last year and the highest monthly total ever for BMW Group electrified.

Year-to-date sales of BMW i, BMW iPerformance and MINI electrified vehicles totalled 60,660 (+42.5%), confirming the BMW Group’s position as a leading global provider of premium electrified mobility.

“We can see how well customers respond in markets where electromobility is supported by a range of measures,” commented Pieter Nota, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Sales and Brand BMW. “For example, three quarters of the vehicles we sell in Norway are electrified, while one in three BMW 5 Series delivered in California is now a plug-in hybrid.”

With the introduction of the locally-built BMW 5 Series plug-in hybrid in China, electrified sales in the BMW Group’s largest overall market have increased five-fold in the first six months year-on-year, with a total of 6,295 units sold so far in 2018. First-half-year electrified sales increased significantly in several other major markets, including the USA (12,015 / +51.3%) and the UK (8,823 / +41.4%).

The BMW Group offer nine electrified vehicles in its portfolio including BMW 5 Series, the MINI Cooper S E Countryman plug-in hybrid, BMW i3, BMW i8, BMW 225xe iPerformance, BMW 330e iPerformance, BMW X5 40e iPerformance and BMW 740e/740Le iPerformance, plus the BMW X1 xDrive 25Le iPerformance sold exclusively in China.

The BMW Group remains well on target to achieve its stated aim of selling over 140,000 electrified vehicles in 2018.

The BMW Group has achieved its best ever first-half-year sales result with a total of 1,242,507 (+1.8%) BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce vehicles delivered to customers. It was also a record June for the company, with sales up 2.7% to total 238,920 units worldwide.

“Our strong sales performance in June means we’ve now achieved 35 consecutive quarters of growth and are confident this trend will continue,” said Nota. “With production of the BMW X3 in China and South Africa ramping up, we will be able to fulfil the strong customer demand for our celebrated X models and the second half year should be increasingly positive. I’m also delighted with the ongoing popularity of our electrified vehicles, which achieved their best-ever month in June, keeping us well on track to achieve over 140,000 electrified sales by the end of the year,” Nota continued.
