Daimler Sparks Electric Mobility For its Employees

charge-at-workA taste of electric mobility for Daimler AG’s employees in and around Stuttgart: as part of the “charge@work” project, the group is making 260 electric vehicles available to employees.

Beginning in mid-October, Daimler AG will adopt 220 smart fortwo electric drive cars and 40 Mercedes-Benz A-Class E-CELL vehicles into its in-house fleet.

The electric cars will subsequently be made available to the company’s employees as they require, for business and private use. Charging is simpler than refuelling: park and plug in – the vehicle charges during the user’s working hours.

With the project “charge@work”, Daimler AG is providing its employees with access to efficient and sustainable electric mobility. Battery powered A-Class vehicles will be available for individual shuttling between the respective factories. For private use, employees will additionally be able to hire a smart fortwo electric drive online on a weekly, monthly or annual basis. Thus, a vast and diverse group of users will have the opportunity to get a taste of electric cars in an everyday environment.

Plenty of charging facilities at five Daimler factories in Möhringen, Sindelfingen, Mettingen, Untertürkheim and Böblingen encourage a wide and practical usage of the provided vehicles. Efforts to further optimise the charging process are set to continue. In this respect, the focus will be on further development of “intelligent charging” with the overarching goals of efficient energy management and an optimal use of resources.

The project “charge@work” is one of over 40 initiatives in the “LivingLab BWe mobil” programme to demonstrate the merits of electric mobility. It is being sponsored by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety as part of the federal government’s agenda to promote electric mobility in Germany. Partners of the project are the Fraunhofer IAO institute for work efficiency and organisation and the Institute for Human Factors and Technology Management IAT at the University of Stuttgart.

Supported by the state of Baden-Württemberg and the Stuttgart region, more than 100 partners from business, science and public sectors are conducting practical research into electric mobility under the auspices of the state government of Baden-Württemberg as part of the LivingLab BWe mobil promotion programme. Daimler AG is involved in ten such promotion projects.[wzslider height=”400″ lightbox=”true”]
