Pininfarina said Thursday it will rent out its Italian factory to prototype company Cecomp to produce up to 4,000 electric cars destined for a low-cost car rental scheme in Paris.
The Pininfarina electric cars will be used in Autolib, a car-sharing service in France, which starts in October.
French company Bollore, which is in a joint venture with Pininfarina for electric cars, won the contract to supply the car.
The Pininfarina agreement includes 57 workers, machinery and runs through the end of 2013.
“The total value of the rent is 14 million euros (19.33 million dollars),” Pininfarina said in a statement.
