Queen Sofia of Spain has been testing an electric Peugeot iOn in Marivent Palace in Mallorca, where the Spanish Royal Family is spending their summer break.
She called the electric iOn “phenomenal” and was said to have accepted Peugeot’s offer as a show of support for electric cars in Spain, Telegraph reported.
Spain’s government had hoped to get 2,000 electric cars on the road by the end of the year but so far only 16 of the vehicles have been sold.
Based on the Mitsubishi i-MiEV, the Peugeot iOn is powered by an electric motor that can develop 64HP and 180Nm of torque with maximum speed of 130 km/h.
The new iOn can go 150km on the European driving cycle on its lithium ion batteries. The iOn’s batteries can be charged in 6 hours using a conventional 220V socket or up to 80% in 30 minutes via a fast charging system. It’s powered by a 64hp motor with 180Nm of torque.
The Peugeot iOn will be available from the end of this year for a monthly rental of less than €500.
