Seven-Eleven to use Toyota COMS EVs for Deliveries

Seven-Eleven Japan will use ultra-compact COMS electric vehicles to deliver products to homes and offices starting in August, Japan’s largest convenience-store operator said on July 2.

Toyota Auto Body, a subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corp., released the new model of the single-seat COMS electric vehicle on the same day. It said it will lease 3,000 EVs to Seven-Eleven Japan over the next two years.

The COMS EV, which costs 668,000 yen ($8,370), has a six-hour charge and features a range of around 50 kilometers (31 miles) and a maximum speed of 60 km/h (37 mph).

Seven-Eleven Japan hopes to have 200 of the small electric vehicles operating by September. The retail chain plans to expand its COMS fleet after evaluating the vehicle’s effectiveness.
