MG has unveiled an ambitious technology roadmap that highlights the next phase of the brand’s electrification and intelligent driving strategy.
Announced during MG Tech Day at the company’s UK headquarters in London, the roadmap introduces a new Plug-in Hybrid+ powertrain, semi-solid-state SolidCore Battery technology, and an expanded suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) designed specifically for European roads.
The latest innovations reinforce MG’s strategy of making advanced automotive technology more accessible while improving efficiency, safety and everyday usability for a broader range of drivers.

New Plug-in Hybrid+ System Promises Greater Efficiency and Performance
At the heart of MG’s future electrification plans is its all-new Plug-in Hybrid+ powertrain. Designed exclusively for hybrid applications, the system combines newly developed turbocharged petrol engines with an advanced hybrid transmission to deliver stronger performance, improved fuel economy and a more refined driving experience.
The new dedicated hybrid engines will be available in 1.1-liter and 1.5-liter turbocharged versions, delivering thermal efficiencies exceeding 42% and 43% respectively. These figures place the engines among the most efficient gasoline units developed for hybrid vehicles.
A newly engineered transmission integrates two key technologies:
– Power Split, which continuously balances engine and electric motor output for maximum efficiency.
– Motor Decoupling, which disconnects the generator during electric driving to eliminate unnecessary mechanical drag.
Together, these systems allow the vehicle to automatically select the most efficient operating mode depending on driving conditions. Electric power is prioritized at lower speeds, hybrid operation is used during mixed driving, while direct engine drive becomes more efficient at higher motorway speeds.
MG says the new system maintains engine thermal efficiency above 40% during roughly 90% of normal driving conditions while achieving electric drive efficiency of up to 90%.
Performance also receives a significant boost. Vehicles equipped with Plug-in Hybrid+ will accelerate from 0-62 mph in less than six seconds, while 50-75 mph acceleration takes as little as 3.5 seconds. Torque delivery has also been improved, increasing hill-start capability by as much as 72%.
Cabin refinement is another major focus. By disconnecting the generator during EV operation, the system reduces noise and vibration by up to 5 dB compared with conventional plug-in hybrids, creating a driving experience closer to that of a fully electric vehicle.
The first production model to feature the new Plug-in Hybrid+ technology will be the MG ZS Plug-in Hybrid+, scheduled to arrive in 2027.

Semi-Solid-State SolidCore Battery Heads to Future Plug-in Hybrids
MG also confirmed that its new SolidCore Battery technology will become a key component of future Plug-in Hybrid+ models.
Built around a semi-solid-state battery architecture with an advanced 3D spinel structure, the battery offers higher energy conversion efficiency and faster power delivery than conventional liquid-electrolyte batteries.
For drivers, the technology is expected to deliver several important advantages:
– More consistent power output in hot and cold weather
– Improved driving range stability
– Better performance with lower battery charge
– Faster power response during acceleration
– Increased overall efficiency

The improved battery stability also helps reduce one of the traditional weaknesses of plug-in hybrids—performance degradation as battery charge decreases.
MG says three upcoming SUVs in the B-, C- and D-segment categories will become the first Plug-in Hybrid+ models equipped with SolidCore Battery technology.
ADAS Developed Specifically for European Roads
Rather than relying solely on laboratory testing, MG has built its latest driver assistance technologies using more than 1.2 million kilometers of real-world driving data collected across 24 European countries.
This “In Europe, for Europe” approach allows the company to optimize its systems for road layouts commonly found across the continent, including roundabouts, tram crossings, narrow city streets and complex urban environments.
The goal is to create driver assistance systems that feel more natural and reliable during everyday driving.

One Touch iAD Makes Parking Easier
One of the most practical additions is MG One Touch iAD, an intelligent parking assistance system originally introduced on the company’s premium IM models.
The system supports more than 30 parking scenarios and recognizes over 300 different parking space types, including spaces without painted lines.
Its primary functions include:
– Automatic parking space detection and one-touch parking
– Kerbside parking assistance
– Automatic pull-out from tight parking spaces
– Reverse assist that retraces the previous driving path for up to 100 meters while monitoring for obstacles
MG says the system has been specifically engineered to address common parking challenges faced by European drivers, including narrow parking bays, tight streets and busy urban environments.
Future software updates are expected to introduce additional capabilities such as remote parking, head-in parking and smartphone-controlled parking assistance.
Navigate On Autopilot Arrives in 2027
MG’s next major step in driver assistance will be Navigate On Autopilot (NOA), scheduled for introduction in late 2027.
Initially focused on motorway driving, the system will assist drivers with:
– Entering and exiting motorways
– Lane selection
– Automatic lane changes
– Overtaking slower traffic
Driver supervision will remain mandatory, with the driver retaining full responsibility for vehicle control.
MG chose motorway deployment first because highway environments are generally more predictable than urban streets. A city-focused version capable of handling intersections, traffic lights, cyclists and pedestrians is expected to follow in 2028.
The first vehicle equipped with Highway NOA will be a new MG SUV launching in late 2027.
Level 4 Robotaxi Development Continues
Looking further ahead, MG confirmed it is actively testing Level 4 Robotaxi technology in Germany, China and the Middle East.
Level 4 autonomous vehicles are capable of operating without driver input within predefined operating areas. While the technology continues to advance, MG says commercial deployment in production vehicles remains some years away.
MG’s Technology Strategy Focuses on Everyday Drivers
MG’s latest roadmap demonstrates that the company is investing across multiple areas of vehicle technology rather than concentrating solely on battery-electric vehicles.
The combination of a more efficient Plug-in Hybrid+ system, semi-solid-state battery technology and driver assistance software tailored for European roads aims to improve real-world ownership rather than simply increasing technical specifications.
With the first Plug-in Hybrid+ models and Highway Navigate On Autopilot expected to arrive in 2027, MG is positioning itself to offer more advanced electrified vehicles while keeping new technologies accessible to mainstream buyers.
