Volkswagen has officially revealed its 2027 model year lineup for the U.S., bringing back the highly anticipated ID. Buzz after a brief pause. The electric microbus returns with meaningful updates, including a brand-new Tourer variant designed for overnight adventures, upgraded infotainment, and improved driver assistance systems.
The 2027 refresh focuses on usability, connectivity, and lifestyle appeal—especially for buyers looking to blend electric driving with road-trip versatility.
ID. Buzz Tourer: Built for Electric Camping
The headline addition is the new Tourer 4Motion trim, which transforms the ID. Buzz into a compact electric camper. Inspired by the European “Good Night Package,” this version is tailored for overnight stays without needing a full camper conversion.
Key features include a fold-out mattress and platform, window blinds, ventilation panels, and even an exterior table and chairs. An “Overnight Mode” optimizes both interior and exterior systems to make sleeping in the vehicle more practical.
Based on the Pro S 4Motion model, the Tourer adds several premium touches such as Captain’s Chairs, an electrochromic smart roof, a retractable tow hitch, and a 20-inch wheel setup. The result is a lifestyle-focused EV that leans into nostalgia while delivering modern functionality.
Updated Lineup and Classic Styling
For 2027, the Volkswagen ID. Buzz lineup has been restructured into four trims:
– Pro S RWD
– Pro S 4Motion (new)
– Tourer 4Motion (new)
– Pro S Plus 4Motion
Volkswagen has also simplified the color palette, now offering only two-tone paint schemes. A standout addition is the Candy White over Cherry Red finish, paired with white wheels—a clear nod to the classic Type 2 Microbus.
Infotainment Overhaul and Connected Services
All 2027 ID. Buzz models receive Volkswagen’s latest ID.S 6 software, an Android-based infotainment system designed to improve usability and content access.
The system introduces a redesigned navigation interface and a more intuitive vehicle settings layout. It also brings an expanded ecosystem of connected services bundled into a single In-Vehicle Premium subscription.
Highlights include:
– Advanced navigation with real-time traffic and online points of interest
– Voice assistant powered by ChatGPT integration
– Access to over 30,000 radio stations and 1 million podcasts
– Built-in Wi-Fi hotspot and App Store access
– Streaming apps like YouTube and Spotify
New features such as AirConsole turn the infotainment system into a gaming platform, while What3Words simplifies navigation using three-word location identifiers.
Enhanced Driver Assistance Systems
Volkswagen has significantly upgraded its advanced driver assistance technologies for the ID. Buzz family.
Travel Assist now includes assisted lane changes with a “wait-for-clear” function, improved lane centering, and predictive adaptive cruise control. Meanwhile, Emergency Assist can safely guide the vehicle to the roadside and bring it to a stop if no driver input is detected—an important safety enhancement for medical emergencies.
Charging and Practical Upgrades
The 2027 ID. Buzz also adopts the North American Charging System (NACS), improving compatibility with a wider charging network. One-pedal driving is now included as standard, enhancing efficiency and ease of use in urban driving.
What About the ID.4?
While the spotlight is on the ID. Buzz, Volkswagen ID.4 remains available through existing 2026 inventory, which is expected to carry sales into 2027. Volkswagen has confirmed that a future version of the ID.4 is in development for North America, though details remain under wraps.
Availability
Select 2027 Volkswagen models, including the ID. Buzz, are scheduled to arrive in U.S. dealerships starting in August, with a broader rollout continuing into early 2027.
