Dreame Nebula NEXT 01 JET Edition Claims 0–100 km/h in 0.9s

Dreame Technology has stepped far beyond its roots in smart home devices, unveiling one of the most radical electric vehicle concepts to date: the Nebula NEXT 01 JET Edition.

Presented during the Drive Next segment of the company’s innovation showcase in San Francisco, the vehicle pushes the limits of what electric performance might look like in the years ahead.

At the center of the announcement is a headline-grabbing claim—0 to 100 km/h (0–62 mph) in just 0.9 seconds. If achieved, it would make the Nebula NEXT 01 JET Edition the fastest-accelerating car ever conceived.

Rocket Boosters Meet Electric Performance

Unlike conventional EVs that rely solely on motor output and tire grip, the Nebula NEXT 01 JET Edition introduces an unconventional solution: a dual solid-fuel rocket booster system. These boosters reportedly deliver up to 100 kN of thrust and activate within 150 milliseconds.

This approach addresses a fundamental limitation in high-performance EVs—traction. Modern electric hypercars are already limited by tire grip, meaning additional power often fails to improve low-speed acceleration. By supplementing wheel-driven force with rocket thrust, Dreame aims to bypass this bottleneck entirely.

While the concept may sound extreme, it highlights a broader trend: rethinking performance engineering beyond traditional constraints.

Advanced LiDAR and Autonomous Ambitions

Alongside the vehicle, Dreame introduced the DHX1 LiDAR system, developed under its Nebula Next program. The company claims the sensor represents a leap from conventional point-cloud perception to ultra-high-definition image-level sensing.

In practical terms, this could enable vehicles to detect fine details such as small debris, subtle pedestrian movements, and distant road irregularities—capabilities that go beyond the current generation of automotive LiDAR systems.

The Nebula platform also incorporates Dreame’s third-generation autonomous driving architecture, featuring:

– An L2++ system capable of full-scenario urban navigation, from parking spot to parking spot
– An L3+ system designed for fully unmanned driving on advanced computing hardware

These developments position the Nebula NEXT 01 JET Edition not just as a performance showcase, but as a technology demonstrator for future intelligent vehicles.

Engineering Innovations Beneath the Surface

The concept integrates CTP 4.0 (cell-to-pack) battery technology, eliminating traditional structural beams within the battery pack. This design frees up vertical space in the chassis, potentially improving both aerodynamics and interior packaging.

Dreame’s expertise in high-speed digital motors—capable of reaching up to 200,000 RPM—also plays a role in the vehicle’s development. Combined with its experience in intelligent algorithms and robotics, the company is leveraging cross-industry engineering to accelerate its automotive ambitions.

Skepticism and Industry Reality

Despite the bold claims, questions remain. Achieving sub-one-second acceleration presents significant physical challenges, particularly regarding tire grip and vehicle stability. Even the fastest production EVs today are traction-limited at launch.

The use of rocket boosters may theoretically overcome this limitation, but practical considerations—such as safety, repeatability, and road legality—remain unclear. Details about production feasibility, durability, and real-world usability are still scarce.

A New Player in the EV Arms Race

Dreame’s move into the automotive space builds on more than a decade of research, dating back to early autonomous driving projects at Tsinghua University. The Nebula NEXT program represents the culmination of that effort.

The company has also outlined ambitions to begin production as early as 2027 and is reportedly planning a manufacturing facility in Europe. While specifics remain limited, the strategy mirrors a broader trend of rapid innovation from Chinese tech firms entering the EV sector.

Recent industry examples—including breakthroughs from Xiaomi—demonstrate how quickly new entrants can disrupt established players.

Concept or Game-Changer?

The Nebula NEXT 01 JET Edition may currently exist as a concept, but it signals a shift in how performance, autonomy, and engineering are being reimagined in the electric era.

Whether rocket-assisted EVs become reality or remain experimental, Dreame’s latest project underscores a key point: the boundaries of automotive innovation are being pushed faster than ever.
