Buick Electra E7 Opens Presales in China With Family-Focused Plug-In Hybrid Tech

Buick has opened presales for the all-new Electra E7 in China, introducing a five-seat plug-in hybrid SUV tailored to the needs of modern families. Expected to be priced between RMB 160,000 (20,000 euro) and RMB 210,000 (about 26,000 euro), the Electra E7 is the first SUV from Buick’s new premium electrified sub-brand in the Chinese market.

Built around the idea of a “perfect cabin for kids,” the Electra E7 combines long-distance plug-in hybrid efficiency with a spacious interior, advanced safety systems, and intelligent technology. Final pricing will be revealed on April 22, when deliveries are also scheduled to begin.

Designed Around Family Life

Buick developed the Electra E7 for China’s growing number of young families who see their vehicle as more than just transportation. The SUV is designed to serve as a healthy in-cabin environment, a comfortable second living space, and a practical companion for long-distance travel.

Three trims will be offered in China: the 1600 Full Package, 1600 Ultra Package, and 1600 Ultra Package Turbo. All versions are powered by SAIC-GM’s Zhenlong Plug-in Hybrid Pro system and come with 42 standard comfort and convenience features.

One of the Electra E7’s standout features is its health-focused cabin. Buick worked with Chinese healthcare platform Dingxiang Doctor to create a Children’s Travel Health C.A.R.E. model based on travel data from more than 3,700 families. This helped shape a cabin designed to improve comfort and reduce travel stress for children.

The SUV features a five-dimension healthy cabin system that manages air quality, temperature, humidity, oxygen levels, and cabin quietness. Buick says the Electra E7 exceeds China’s vehicle air quality standards, while the use of OEKO-TEX baby-grade materials and zero-formaldehyde certification adds an extra layer of reassurance for families.

Cabin comfort is further enhanced by double-layer acoustic glass, active noise control, and a low drag coefficient of 0.265, helping deliver a quiet ride that supports rest on longer trips.

Spacious Cabin With Family-Friendly Practicality

The Electra E7 places strong emphasis on second-row comfort, turning the rear cabin into a lounge-like space for passengers. Its long wheelbase provides generous room, with enough headroom in the second row for children to stand comfortably while changing clothes during road trips.

Flexible seating allows the cabin to be transformed into multiple layouts, including a double-bed mode for camping or rest stops. Buick’s floating-layer seat design uses soft, breathable materials to improve long-distance comfort, while front and rear seats offer heating and ventilation. Front passengers also benefit from massage functions.

Practicality is another major focus. The Electra E7 includes a multifunction rear table, a silver-ion cool and heat box for food and drinks, and 30 storage compartments throughout the cabin. Cargo capacity ranges from 650 liters to 1,798 liters, making the SUV well-suited for family holidays, errands, and outdoor activities.

Plug-In Hybrid Range Up to 1,630 km

Under the hood, the Electra E7 uses Buick’s Zhenlong Plug-in Hybrid Pro system, pairing a 1.5-liter turbocharged hybrid engine producing 115 kW with a 165 kW electric motor.

Buick says the SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in around seven seconds and reach a top speed of approximately 210 km/h. More importantly for family buyers, it delivers over 200 kilometers of pure-electric driving range under the CLTC cycle, allowing many daily commutes to be completed without using fuel.

The combined driving range reaches up to 1,630 kilometers under CLTC testing, making the Electra E7 well-suited for longer intercity travel.

Charging performance is also competitive. DC fast charging can take the battery from 30% to 80% in as little as 15 minutes, while a short 10-minute stop can add roughly 100 kilometers of range. The SUV also supports 6 kW vehicle-to-load functionality, allowing owners to power appliances during camping trips or emergencies.

Advanced Driver Assistance and Smart Cabin Tech

Buick equips the Electra E7 with its Xiaoyao Zhixing intelligent driving system, which combines 27 sensors, including lidar, radar, and cameras, with Momenta’s R6 reinforcement learning platform.

This system supports advanced features such as city Navigation on Autopilot, intelligent parking assistance for tight or complex spaces, and memory parking for more than 200 routes. The SUV can also recognize toll gates, controlled traffic lanes, and other special road scenarios.

Ride comfort is enhanced by RTD adaptive damping suspension, high-frequency road scanning, anti-motion sickness tuning, and smart hill-climb support, helping make longer journeys smoother for all passengers.

Inside, the Electra E7 offers a premium digital experience with a 50-inch augmented reality head-up display, multiple large screens, and a 15.6-inch rear entertainment display. A 20-speaker Dolby Atmos audio system adds to the upscale feel.

Buick also says the Electra E7 is the first vehicle in the industry to integrate the latest Doubao AI large language model, enabling more natural voice interaction, trip planning assistance, and family-focused in-car support.

A Strong New Contender in China’s Family SUV Market

With its long electric range, fast charging, child-focused cabin features, and advanced technology, the Buick Electra E7 is shaping up to be a compelling new option in China’s highly competitive plug-in hybrid SUV segment.

As demand grows for practical electrified family vehicles, the Electra E7 could become one of Buick’s most important launches in China this year.
