New BYD Qin Plus DM-i PHEV Launches With 220 km Electric Range

BYD has launched the third-generation Qin Plus DM-i plug-in hybrid sedan in China, bringing a longer electric driving range, a larger body, updated interior technology and optional LiDAR-based driver assistance. The new model offers up to 220 km (137 miles) of CLTC-rated electric range and a claimed combined driving range of 2,290 km (1,423 miles).

With official prices starting at 79,900 yuan (approximately $11,980), the updated Qin Plus DM-i continues BYD’s push to make electrified family cars more affordable. Limited-time launch pricing reduces the entry price to 76,900 yuan (around $11,450), while the top version costs 97,900 yuan under the promotional offer.

Third-Generation BYD Qin Plus DM-i: Price and Range

The new Qin Plus DM-i is available in three configurations, combining different battery capacities and electric driving ranges.

VersionOfficial priceLimited-time priceCLTC electric range
Leading79,900 yuan76,900 yuan140 km
Superior90,900 yuan87,900 yuan220 km
Excellence100,900 yuan97,900 yuan220 km

The pricing structure makes the Qin Plus DM-i particularly competitive in China’s plug-in hybrid sedan segment. The entry-level version prioritizes affordability, while the two higher trims offer a larger battery and longer electric range. The promotional prices are 3,000 yuan below the respective official guide prices.

Larger Dimensions and Updated Exterior Design

The third-generation Qin Plus DM-i receives a substantial redesign, with increased dimensions aimed at improving cabin space and passenger comfort. The sedan measures 4,840 mm (190.6 inches) long, 1,900 mm (74.8 inches) wide and 1,498 mm (59 inches) tall, with a wheelbase of 2,800 mm (110.2 inches).

Compared with its predecessor, the new model gains 60 mm in length, 63 mm in width and 82 mm in wheelbase. The longer wheelbase should help provide additional room for rear passengers, an important consideration for a sedan designed for families and everyday commuting.

The exterior features a redesigned front fascia, sharper headlights and a fastback-inspired roofline. At the rear, full-width taillights retain the Qin family’s distinctive Chinese-knot-inspired styling. A new Island Blue paint option adds to the updated color selection, while selected colors can be paired with a contrasting floating roof.

These changes give the Qin Plus DM-i a more contemporary appearance without abandoning the practical proportions of a mainstream family sedan.

Up to 220 km of Electric Range

The biggest mechanical update is the larger battery option, which increases the Qin Plus DM-i’s maximum electric range to 220 km under China’s CLTC testing cycle.

BYD offers two lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs: a 16.2 kWh unit for the entry-level version and a 24.3 kWh pack for the two higher trims. The smaller battery provides a claimed 140 km of electric range, while the larger pack delivers up to 220 km.

The plug-in hybrid system combines a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine producing 74 kW (99 hp) with an electric motor rated at 120 kW (161 hp). The model retains BYD’s fifth-generation DM hybrid technology, designed to balance electric driving capability with long-distance flexibility.

For drivers with access to home or workplace charging, the larger battery could cover many daily journeys without using gasoline. Longer trips remain possible without depending entirely on public charging infrastructure, as the gasoline engine provides additional flexibility.

The 220 km figure is based on the CLTC cycle, which is used in China and is generally more optimistic than real-world driving results. Actual electric range will vary with temperature, speed, traffic, climate-control use and driving style.

BYD also claims a combined driving range of up to 2,290 km with a full battery and full fuel tank. Fuel consumption with the battery depleted is rated at just 2.58 liters per 100 km under the NEDC testing cycle. These are manufacturer-reported figures, and real-world consumption will depend on driving conditions.

Updated Interior and Driver Assistance Technology

Inside, the redesigned sedan adopts BYD’s latest Dynasty-family design language, with a two-spoke multifunction steering wheel, a floating central touchscreen and a more streamlined dashboard.

Depending on the configuration, the infotainment system includes a 10.1-inch or 12.8-inch central display, complemented by an 8.8-inch digital instrument panel. The cabin also features ambient lighting, additional storage solutions and redesigned seats. BYD offers two interior color schemes, Cloud Yarn Beige and Ink Smoke Grey.

One of the more notable technology options is the roof-mounted LiDAR sensor associated with BYD’s God’s Eye B driver assistance system. The system supports city and highway navigation assistance, alongside intelligent parking functions.

These capabilities are optional rather than standard across the entire range, so buyers will need to select an appropriately equipped version to access them. Driver assistance systems also require appropriate driver supervision and should not be treated as fully autonomous driving.

The Qin Plus DM-i adds another technology-focused option to BYD’s affordable sedan lineup, bringing features previously more commonly associated with higher-priced vehicles into a more accessible segment.

BYD Refreshes Its Qin Lineup Amid Sales Pressure

The launch comes as BYD works to strengthen the position of its Qin family in China’s highly competitive new-energy vehicle market.

According to sales figures compiled by CnEVPost, the Qin family recorded 23,472 sales in September 2026, down 65.27% year over year. Sales for the first nine months of the year totaled 207,589 vehicles, a decline of 54.71% compared with the same period in 2025.

The third-generation Qin Plus DM-i responds with a combination of a larger body, improved electric range, updated cabin technology and aggressive pricing. Its plug-in hybrid powertrain also offers an alternative for buyers who want to drive electrically on shorter journeys without relying exclusively on charging stations.

The Qin Plus sits within a broader family that includes the Qin L and Qin Max, giving BYD several options across the mainstream sedan market. The new generation of the Qin Plus DM-i is the plug-in hybrid version; the battery-electric Qin Plus is a separate model.

For now, the announced specifications and prices apply to China. BYD has not confirmed an international launch or overseas pricing for this updated sedan.
