MG Unveils SolidCore Battery and Hybrid+ Tech to Boost EV Performance in Europe

Marking a new chapter in its 101-year engineering legacy, MG Motor has introduced its next-generation SolidCore Battery, alongside significant advancements in its Hybrid+ technology.

The announcement highlights MG’s ambition to lead innovation in electrified mobility while strengthening its growing footprint across Europe.

SolidCore Battery: A Step Toward the Future of EVs

MG’s newly branded SolidCore Battery represents a major leap forward in battery technology. Notably, the company claims to be the first automaker to achieve mass production of semi-solid-state batteries, a milestone that could reshape expectations for electric vehicles.

The benefits are clear and highly relevant for modern EV buyers:

– Longer driving range for improved usability
– Faster charging speeds to reduce downtime
– Enhanced safety through a more stable battery structure
– Improved cold-weather performance, critical for European climates

Unlike traditional lithium-ion batteries, the SolidCore system uses solid-state electrolytes, forming a protective barrier inside each cell. This not only boosts durability but also helps meet future regulatory standards.

One standout advantage is its performance in low temperatures. Vehicles equipped with the SolidCore Battery can start instantly without preheating and maintain stronger acceleration compared to conventional EVs in similar conditions.

MG plans to roll out this technology in its European EV lineup starting late 2026, reinforcing its commitment to practical, real-world innovation.

“In Europe, For Europe” Strategy Gains Momentum

The debut of the SolidCore Battery coincides with the opening of MG’s new engineering hub in Frankfurt, Germany. This facility will play a central role in tailoring vehicles specifically for European drivers.

This move is part of a broader expansion strategy. MG has already surpassed one million cumulative vehicle sales in Europe, supported by engineering teams in Longbridge and design operations in London.

Hybrid+ Technology: Smarter, More Efficient Driving

Alongside its EV advancements, MG is also pushing forward in hybrid innovation with its Hybrid+ system.

The brand reported 137,000 hybrid sales in 2025, a staggering 300% increase year-over-year. The MG HS has been a standout performer, ranking among the top 10 best-selling hybrids in multiple European markets.

Hybrid+ combines advanced software and hardware to deliver optimized fuel efficiency, faster power delivery, smoother integration between engine and electric motor.

Key highlights include:

– A 1.83 kWh high-capacity battery for extended electric driving
– A segment-first 3-speed hybrid transmission for improved responsiveness
– An intelligent 8-mode Logic Engine that adapts power delivery in real time

The system also features a Hybrid Control Unit (HCU) capable of detecting terrain changes, allowing the vehicle to adjust its propulsion strategy—for example, when climbing slopes or navigating varying road conditions.

Beyond performance, Hybrid+ enhances in-cabin comfort with reduced noise and vibration, delivering a more refined driving experience.

A Dual Approach to Electrification

With the introduction of both SolidCore and Hybrid+ technologies, MG Motor is taking a dual-track approach to electrification—advancing fully electric vehicles while continuing to refine hybrid solutions.

This strategy ensures broader accessibility, giving customers more options as the transition to fully electric mobility continues.

As MG continues to invest in Europe-focused development and cutting-edge technologies, its latest innovations position the brand as a serious contender in the rapidly evolving EV and hybrid landscape.
