Kia lowers EV6 entry price with new £39,235 ‘Air’ entry-level model

Kia UK has introduced a new variant to its popular EV6 line-up, with entry-level ‘Air’ models now benefiting from a Standard Range battery option.

The new model, boasting a 63.0kWh battery pack, is ideal for price-sensitive customers who still nevertheless want the practicality, capability and modern design offered by the EV6. It introduces a lower entry price for the EV6 range, priced from £39,235 on-the-road.

The EV6 ‘Air’ Standard Range offers a slightly smaller battery than its stablemates, capable of driving up to 265 miles on the WLTP ‘combined’ cycle, and up to 400 miles on the ‘city’ cycle. Powered by a single rear-mounted motor, EV6 ‘Air’ Standard Range is capable of accelerating from 0-to-62mph in 8.7 seconds, with a top speed of 115mph. The smaller battery also means the car is slightly lighter on its feet, lowering the car’s kerb weight to 1,955kg. The insurance group for the new entry-level model is also reduced, to 29E, further aiding affordability for cost-conscious customers.

Based on the same Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) architecture, with the same 800V charging capabilities, as the wider EV6 range, the new variant remains capable of charging from 10-to-80% in as little as 18 minutes from a 350kW DC charger, and 58 minutes from a 50kW DC charger. It also offers the same generous level of space for occupants, as well as a 490-litre luggage capacity and 52-litre ‘frunk’ for storing a charging cable. The EV6 ‘Air’ Standard Range is capable of towing braked trailers up to 750kg.

Powertrain and battery aside, the new model features the same generous standard specification as the EV6 ‘Air’ with the larger 84.0kWh battery pack. Standard equipment includes 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps, heated front seats and steering wheel, Smart Cruise Control with stop/go functionality, start/stop button with smart entry, a panoramic driver display and touchscreen with navigation (formed of two 12.3-inch curved displays), wireless Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™, and seven years’ free Kia Connect telematics services.

The interior of the EV6 ‘Air’ Standard Range is finished in black cloth and artificial leather, and is available with a choice of standard or premium paint finishes: Runway Red, Midnight Black, Glacier White and Interstellar Grey. Customers can specify premium paint options for £675.

Orders open today for the new model, with first customer deliveries due to start from later in May. Servicing intervals are every two years or 20,000 miles (whichever comes sooner). As with every other Kia EV, the EV6 is offered with Kia’s pioneering 7-year, 100,000-mile warranty (8-year, 100,000-mile warranty for EV battery and motor).
