Ford Delivers 140,000 Free NACS Adapters, Now Available For $200

Ford has delivered on its promise, sending out 140,000 NACS charging adapters to owners of its 2021-2024 Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning models. This means a huge boost in charging accessibility, unlocking Tesla’s vast Supercharger network for Ford EV drivers.

While Ford EVs with built-in NACS ports are expected in 2026, these adapters are the key to unlocking Tesla’s network right now. Initially, Tesla was responsible for production, but delays and customer feedback led Ford to switch to Lectron, a third-party EV charging specialist.

Launched in 2024 after Tesla opened its network, the program distributed adapters to Ford customers, significantly improving their access to fast charging on US highways.

Ford will now sell the adapters for approximately $200. According to Ford, all reserved free adapters have been shipped. The company also reported that Tesla Superchargers now account for nearly 20% of out-of-home charging sessions for Ford EV owners.

While Ford customers pay about 30% more per kilowatt-hour at Tesla Superchargers compared to Tesla owners, they can achieve the same rates by subscribing to a Tesla Supercharging Membership.

In May 2023, Ford became the first automaker to commit to the NACS switch. Over the following months, every other automaker selling EVs in North America followed suit and then in February 2024, Ford became the first to actually start pushing out software that enabled Supercharger access.
