PEUGEOT 308 and 408 receive latest generation plug-in hybrid powertrains

To ensure no customer is left behind in the transition to electrification, PEUGEOT has developed a wide range of electrified powertrains, including hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric, on the same platform. For customers further along the transition to electrification, PEUGEOT has introduced a new plug-in hybrid powertrain for the 308, 308 SW, and 408 models, capable of an impressive 48 – 49 miles of electric-only range.

The latest-generation powertrain, which launched with the new 3008 and 5008, promises increased electric efficiency. It combines a new version of the 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with a 125hp (92kW) electric motor, mated to a new seven-speed dual shift clutch automatic transmission.

For the 408, this results in a combined 225hp (165kW) and 360Nm of torque. For the 308 & 308 SW, the resulting output is a combined 195hp (144kW) and 360Nm of torque. The new plug-in hybrid powertrain gives both models CO2 emissions as low as 18g/km; that’s up to 13g/km less than the outgoing version.

While the 408 PLUG-IN HYBRID 225 can deliver up to 48 miles of electric range, the 308 & 308 SW PLUG-IN HYBRID 195 is capable of up to 49  miles on electric power alone. This makes all three models well-positioned for fleet and business users. Thanks to their increased electric range, they have a resulting BiK rate of just 9% – a 4% reduction based on 2025/2026 rates. For customers, that means a monthly saving between £28 and £60 for the 408, and £24 and £55 for the 308 and 308 SW.

The new powertrain comes with a choice of three drive modes, Hybrid, Electric, and Sport. The default mode is Hybrid, automatically managing the alternating or simultaneous operation of the petrol engine and electric motor. To optimise fuel consumption, this mode will prioritise all-electric driving as often as possible. The Electric mode allows driving using only electric power at speeds of up to 83mph, while in Sport the electric power is used to supplement the petrol engine to deliver maximum performance for more dynamic driving.

The new plug-in hybrid powertrain features a larger 17.2kWh battery, with a useful capacity of 14.6kWh. A 3.7kW onboard charger is fitted as standard to all models, enabling a 0-100% charge in 4 hours and 20 minutes, reducing to just over 2 hours with the optional 7.4kW onboard charger.

Pricing & Availability

The PEUGEOT 308 PLUG-IN HYBRID 195 e-DSC7 starts from £38,110 in Allure trim and £41,320 in GT. The 308 SW PLUG-IN HYBRID 195 e-DSC7 is available for an additional £1,200, with Allure priced at £39,310† and GT priced at £42,520 respectively. Orders open on 27th February, with first customer deliveries expected during the Spring.
