Xiaomi Unveils SU7 Ultra Prototype: A Track-Focused Electric Hypercar

Xiaomi, the Chinese tech giant known for its smartphones, has taken the wraps off the SU7 Ultra prototype, a high-performance variant of its recently released SU7 electric vehicle. This pre-production model boasts a slew of modifications aimed at achieving a scorching lap time at the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit in Germany.

The SU7 Ultra is a far cry from its standard counterpart. Xiaomi completely revamped the aerodynamics, equipping the prototype with an aggressive front splitter, redesigned air vents, and a vented hood for improved airflow. Side skirts, a massive rear wing, and a diffuser complete the aerodynamic package, generating a claimed 2,145 kg of downforce for superior grip on the track.

To further shave off weight, Xiaomi replaced all the body panels with carbon fiber, resulting in a curb weight of 1,900 kg. This translates to a significant weight reduction compared to both the standard SU7 Max and the Porsche Taycan Turbo S with the Weissach Package.

Under the hood, or rather, under the body, lies the real muscle. The SU7 Ultra boasts a tri-motor setup, featuring two in-house developed “V8s” electric motors, each churning out 570 bhp and 635 Nm of torque, alongside a third “V6s” unit delivering 387 bhp. This combination produces a staggering 1,527 bhp, eclipsing the likes of the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, Tesla Model S Plaid, and even the Nio EP9.

Xiaomi claims the SU7 Ultra rockets from 0 to 100 kmph in a mere 1.97 seconds, reaching 200 kmph in 5.96 seconds. The top speed is said to exceed 350 kmph, with the car sprinting from 0 to 300 kmph in a claimed 15.07 seconds.

For impressive stopping power, the SU7 Ultra utilizes high-performance brakes from AP Racing paired with racing discs that can withstand extreme temperatures. The car also features a regenerative braking system capable of up to 0.6g of deceleration, bringing it to a halt from 100 kmph in just 25 meters.

The standard SU7 comes in three variants: Standard, Pro, and Max. While the SU7 Max currently reigns as the most powerful variant with a dual-motor setup generating 664 bhp and 838 Nm of torque, the SU7 Ultra prototype takes electric performance to a whole new level, showcasing Xiaomi’s ambitions in the high-performance EV segment.
