Volkswagen ID 7 enters series production at Emden plant

Volkswagen ID.7 is joining the automaker’s all-electric lineup as the sixth model behind the ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, and ID.6 and the new ID.Buzz electric van. The German automaker has officially started production of the ID.7 at its Emden plant.

The ID 7 is anticipated to hit the European market this autumn, with its North American release planned for 2024.

“Today’s production ramp-up of the ID.7 is an important milestone for our transformation,” VW’s core brand chief Thomas Schäfer said at the official start of production at the plant in Emden, East Frisia, on Monday. “With the ID.7, we are reaching the next level in electromobility. As early as 2026, we will have the broadest portfolio in the industry,” the VW manager said.

Volkswagen gave us a preview of the ID.7 electric sedan at CES this January. They promised that this flagship EV would offer performance significantly superior to any of their previously released MEB-based models. Following this, in April, Volkswagen officially presented the ID.7 to the world and simultaneously began offering it in crucial markets such as North America, Europe, and China.

The ID.7 is the first MEB model to get the more powerful and at the same time more efficient APP550 electric motor and also a new battery size.

The ID.7 will initially be available in its Pro variant. This model will be equipped with a 77-kWh battery, offering a range of up to 615 km (382 miles) WLTP range. A later version, the ID.7 Pro S, will feature an 86-kWh battery, which promises a range of up to 700 km (WLTP).

A later version, the ID.7 Pro S will feature an 86 kWh battery for up to 700 km (435 miles) WLTP range. This battery can also be charged with up to 200 kW at peak.

The new ID.7 is one of ten new electric models that will be launched by Volkswagen by 2026. This year alone sees the introduction of the new ID.3, the ID. Buzz with long wheelbase and the ID.7. An electric compact SUV and the production version of the ID. 2 all at a price of less than 25,000 euros are planned for 2026. This will give the car manufacturer the widest range of electric vehicles compared with its competitors.

The new ID.7 will be produced in the Volkswagen plant in Emden (Germany) for the European and North American markets. In China, the corresponding ID.7 models will be produced locally.
