Sony Honda Mobility to start selling their EVs in the US and Japan in 2026

Sony Honda Mobility, a joint venture between Japanese giants Sony Group Corporation and Honda Motor Co., Ltd., announced plan to deliver its first electric vehicles by 2026 and will sell them online, starting in the United States and Japan.

Production will take place at one of Honda’s North American plant. Details such as pricing, platform and the kind of battery to be used were not disclosed. Production volume was also not given, but officials said this was a special model and not intended for massive sales. Pre-orders start 2025.

The new EV will also be priced at a premium, offering a new software system developed by Sony that would open the way to recurring revenue from entertainment and other services that would be billed monthly, the companies said.

“The first delivery is expected to be in North America in the spring of 2026. In Japan, delivery is planned to begin in the second half of 2026,” Yasuhide Mizuno, chairman of the joint venture, Sony Honda Mobility, said on Thursday.

The update from the joint venture, Sony Honda Mobility, is the first since the two companies launched the project in June.

Sony and Honda announced in March that they would form the new entity to develop electric vehicles and accompanying mobility services. The company was set up in September and capitalized at 10 billion yen ($68 million), with Sony and Honda each taking a 50% stake.
