Honda e named 2021 World Urban Car

The Honda e has been named the World Urban Car Of The Year at the 2021 World Car Of The Year.

The Honda e was chosen from an initial entry list of seven cars from all over the world then a short list three finalists as announced on March 30th and came out on top following voting by a jury of 93 international jurors from 28 countries.

Along with the Honda e, the other finalists for the World Urban Car Of The Year were Toyota GR Yaris and Honda Jazz/Fit.

Vehicles eligible for World Urban Car award must be produced in volumes of at least 5,000 units/year and must be “on-sale” in at least two major markets, on at least two separate continents, between May 1, 2020 and May 1, 2021. In addition, vehicles must be a maximum of 4.20 meters in overall length and be approved for operation on public roads.

Apart from being one of the top three contenders for the World Urban Car Of Year, the EV also got shortlisted for the top three contenders for the World Car Design of The Year and the WCOTY. Another all-electric winner was the new Volkswagen ID.4, named World Car of the Year.

The Honda e electric hatchback was launched in Europe last year and it adores a retro design theme and modern technology. Designed for the urban environment, and originally called the Urban EV, the Honda e has a competitive range of up to 136 miles (220 km). The Honda e electric hatchback comes with two electric powertrain options. The lower-spec version makes 100 kW (134 hp), while the more powerful model gets a 113 kW (151 hp) electric motor.
