As a founding member of the Electric Vehicle Charging Carbon Coalition (EVCCC), Electrify America announced that the coalition will receive the 2019 Climate Leadership Awards’ Innovative Partnership Certificate, for collaborative work on leading edge climate initiatives.
The EVCCC developed an innovative pathway to use voluntary carbon credit markets to improve electric vehicle charging infrastructure revenues and thus help support continued EV sales growth.
The new method, pioneered by EVCCC, provides a blueprint to certify the reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions that result when EVs are powered by electric vehicle charging stations compared with conventional vehicles and fossil fuels. These reductions translate into carbon credits that can be sold to help improve current EV infrastructure revenues and make future investments more attractive.
The annual Climate Leadership Awards take place during the Climate Leadership Conference, which brings together forward-thinking leaders from a wide array of sectors to address climate change through policy, innovation and business solutions.
Electrify America and the EVCCC are among this year’s 19 honorees for exemplary corporate, organization and individual leadership in reducing carbon pollution and addressing climate change in their operations and strategies. The awards will be presented tonight at the eighth annual Climate Leadership Awards.
EVCCC was founded by seven organizations from the private and public sectors including Electrify America, the Climate Neutral Business Network, Carbon Neutral Cities Alliance, Connecticut Green Bank, EVgo, Exelon and Siemens. The coalition welcomes additional stakeholders to develop a creative, all-new option for expanding EV charging infrastructure.
The coalition was awarded the Innovative Partnership Certificate for its success in:
– Opening up access for EV charging systems to innovative financing from the carbon capital markets by pioneering a new EV charging carbon offset methodology, accredited by Verified Carbon Standard.
– Monetizing the climate change benefits associated with the transition to electric vehicles by securing incremental certified carbon credit revenues from EV charging systems to help overcome the key charging infrastructure deployment challenge: economics.
– Actively engaging a diverse array of stakeholders to help accelerate this low-carbon future financed with new and more attractive revenues needed to invest in EV charging infrastructure.
– Demonstrating how the private and public sectors can work successfully towards notable green initiatives.
