BMW Group sold nearly 58,000 in tear-to-date, up 67 percent

Sales of the BMW Group’s range of electrified vehicles continue to grow strongly. A total of 57,895 BMW i, BMW iPerformance and electrified MINI vehicles have been delivered to customers around the world since the start of the year, an increase of 67.0%.

With a total of nine electrified automobiles on sale today, ranging from the BMW i3, through the MINI Countryman, to the BMW 7 Series, the BMW Group has an 11% share of the global electrified market, far ahead of any other traditional car maker.

In Europe, the BMW Group has a 21% market share. The two newest additions to the electrified fleet are already achieving significant sales: the new BMW 530e was delivered to more than 1,000 customers in markets excluding China in August, meaning that over 6% of BMW 5 Series sold in those markets in the month were plug-in hybrids. It’s a similar story with the MINI Cooper S E Countryman ALL4 – with a total of nearly 500 sold in the month, nearly 9% of MINI Countryman models delivered to customers around the world were a plug-in hybrid.

In total, combined sales of BMW i, BMW iPerformance and MINI plug-ins last month stood at 7,184 up 26.8% compared to August of 2016.

The BMW Group offer nine electrified vehicles in its portfolio including BMW 5 Series, the MINI Cooper S E Countryman plug-in hybrid, BMW i3, BMW i8, BMW 225xe iPerformance, BMW 330e iPerformance, BMW X5 40e iPerformance and BMW 740e/740Le iPerformance, plus the BMW X1 xDrive 25Le iPerformance sold exclusively in China.

The company’s electrified range currently comprises nine electrified vehicles and will be further complemented in 2018 by the all-new BMW i8 Roadster. Shortly after that, battery-only solutions will be rolled out across the BMW Group’s core brands, with Plant Oxford starting production of a battery-powered MINI in 2019, and the battery-only BMW X3 following in 2020. The following year, 2021, will see the launch of the BMW Group’s new technology spearhead: the all-electric BMW iNEXT.

In 2017, the BMW Group expects sales of its electrified vehicles to exceed 100,000 for the first time in a single year. By the end of 2017, there will be a total of more than 200,000 BMW Group electrified vehicles on the road.

BMW Group plans to offer 25 electrified models until 2025 – 12 of which fully electric.
