Nissan Sells 400 LEAF EVs to Avis

Nissan-Leaf-AvisAvis Car Rental has placed the world’s largest private order for the Nissan LEAF by ordering 400 of the 100% electric cars for its latest joint venture.

Thanks to funding from the Danish Energy Agency, the EVs will be offered at an all-inclusive price of only 3,495 DKK (€468) per month which is expected to be a major step forward for the electric car revolution in Denmark.

The huge order was commemorated today by the attendance of the Minister of Climate, Energy and Buildings, Rasmus Helveg Petersen, at the handover of the first of the 400 Nissan LEAF, ready to go on the Danish roads. His attendance marked the kick off of the first of four large projects supported by the Danish Energy Agency in order to get more EVs on the roads.

With the green vehicle market still in its infancy in Denmark, this new order from Avis Car Rental will increase the Denmark’s sales figures by 60 percent compared to 2013. Both Avis Car Rental and Nissan expect this initiative will create more demand and provide a significant breakthrough for the EV industry in Denmark.

The new Nissan LEAF fleet at at Avis Car Rental can be mini-leased within an optional period of 1-36 months for only 3,495 DKK per month including VAT, insurance and with no deposit required. An Avis mini-lease comes with no commitment, so businesses can test a Nissan LEAF with no strings attached, saving time and money. The price also includes a 2,500 km allowance, insurance and charging cables. Furthermore, it is possible to install charging facilities at the company address.

Built-in, intelligent plug and play software makes Avis EVs the obvious choice as a pool car system for any company. The software ensures minimal administration, easy booking for employees and provides a detailed overview of fuel economy as well as supplying driving and environmental statistics.

Nissan LEAF is the best selling EV in the world with more than 105,000 cars sold. In Norway, LEAF was the overall third best selling car for 2013, with more than 3,750 cars sold and was the leading passenger car for January and February.

“This is a significant move in to getting many more electric cars on Danish roads. We know that the best way to convince more people to buy electric cars is to incentivise businesses to test drive the Nissan LEAF and find out how comfortable and easy it is to drive. The Danish Energy Agency, with its pool partnerships, has been a great help to us in taking this step, and we are proud to be the first project participants of this scheme, supplying Avis Car Rental with these 400 electric cars on the roads within this year,” said Jean-Pierre Diernaz, Electric Vehicle Director for Nissan Europe.

“Green transport is the future; however, we still sense some hesitation towards electric vehicles from some of our customers. Therefore with Nissan LEAF, we have selected the leading electric vehicle on the market and at the same time made the product as cost effective, easy, convenient and intelligent as possible to hopefully encourage more Danes to lease an electric vehicle,” said Kasper Gjedsted, Managing Director at Avis Car Rental in Denmark.[wzslider height=”400″ lightbox=”true”]
