Volkswagen ID. UNYX 09 Launches in China With 755 km Range

Volkswagen has officially launched the new ID. UNYX 09 electric sedan in China, combining a claimed driving range of up to 755 km, 5C fast-charging technology, and advanced driver-assistance features developed with Chinese technology partner Xpeng. Prices start at 179,900 yuan ($26,800), with a limited-time promotion bringing the entry price down to 169,900 yuan ($25,460) for eligible buyers.

Unveiled on October 24, 2026, the ID. UNYX 09 is a large electric fastback designed to strengthen Volkswagen’s position in one of the world’s most competitive EV markets. It brings together Volkswagen’s design and engineering with battery technology from CATL and intelligent driving systems supplied by Xpeng.

The Volkswagen ID. UNYX 09 is available in three configurations, spanning rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive options.

ID. UNYX 09 Fully Equipped219,900 yuan ($32,800)Rear-wheel drive
ID. UNYX 09 Max249,900 yuan ($37,300)All-wheel drive

The entry-level Ultra version also qualifies for a limited-time promotional price of 169,900 yuan, equivalent to approximately $25,290. The offer is restricted to 500 vehicles with black exterior paint and applies under the launch promotion’s terms.

The promotional price is available to customers who pay a deposit between October 24 and November 30, 2026. Buyers should confirm eligibility and the final terms with Volkswagen dealerships in China.

Up to 755 km of Range and 5C Fast Charging

One of the ID. UNYX 09’s biggest selling points is its combination of long driving range and high-speed charging.

Every version comes with a 91.963 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery supplied by CATL. The battery uses 5C fast-charging technology, which is designed to support high charging power when compatible charging equipment and battery conditions allow.

Volkswagen Anhui says the electric sedan can add approximately 250 km of driving range in just five minutes of charging. Actual charging performance will depend on factors such as battery temperature, state of charge, and charger output.

The single-motor rear-wheel-drive versions deliver a maximum CLTC-rated range of 755 km. The dual-motor all-wheel-drive Max reduces that figure to 705 km because of its different powertrain configuration.

These figures use China’s CLTC testing cycle, which generally produces higher range estimates than WLTP testing used in Europe. For reference, the rear-wheel-drive model’s range is approximately 612 km under WLTP estimates, while the all-wheel-drive version is rated at around 571 km.

The rear-wheel-drive versions use a single 230 kW electric motor, while the Max combines the same rear motor with a 140 kW front motor. The dual-motor configuration provides all-wheel drive and a combined output of 370 kW.

Large Fastback Design With a 3,030 mm Wheelbase

The ID. UNYX 09 adopts a sleek fastback profile, giving it a sportier appearance than a conventional three-box sedan. Its dimensions place it in the mid-to-large electric sedan segment.

The vehicle measures 5,081 mm long, 1,980 mm wide, and approximately 1,509 mm tall, with the height varying by configuration. Its 3,030 mm wheelbase provides a substantial footprint for passenger space.

Exterior highlights include slim headlights, a closed front fascia, a prominent Volkswagen badge, and 21-inch sport wheels. The front lighting system incorporates high-definition digital matrix projection technology and interactive LED elements capable of projecting visual markings to help indicate vehicle width and guide the driver at night.

A dual-chamber air suspension system with adaptive damping is available on the higher-specification versions, helping distinguish them from the entry-level model.

Digital Interior With an 85-Inch Augmented Reality Head-Up Display

Inside, Volkswagen has equipped the ID. UNYX 09 with a technology-focused cabin built around a large central touchscreen and an augmented reality head-up display.

The main interior features include:

– A 15.6-inch central touchscreen
– An 85-inch augmented reality head-up display
– Wireless smartphone charging
– An AI-powered voice assistant
– A digital instrument display
– A 20-speaker audio system

The augmented reality head-up display is designed to project driving information and navigation guidance into the driver’s field of view, reducing the need to look away from the road.

The large central screen provides access to the vehicle’s infotainment functions, while the voice assistant adds another way to interact with the car’s digital systems.

Xpeng Technology Powers Advanced Driver Assistance

The ID. UNYX 09 is the second Volkswagen model developed with Xpeng, following the ID. UNYX 08 electric SUV. The collaboration gives Volkswagen access to Chinese-developed computing hardware and intelligent driving software, allowing the automaker to respond more quickly to the technology expectations of local EV buyers.

The sedan uses Xpeng’s Turing AI chip, which delivers a claimed computing capability of 750 TOPS. Its driver-assistance package is based on Xpeng’s Vision-Language-Action (VLA) large-model system.

Depending on the feature and operating conditions, the system supports navigation-assisted driving on highways and urban roads, as well as automated parking functions. Available parking features include remote parking, parking after the driver exits the vehicle, and assistance with reversing along a previously travelled path.

These are driver-assistance technologies rather than a replacement for an attentive driver. Their availability and performance can also depend on local regulations, software configuration, and road conditions.

The partnership reflects Volkswagen’s broader strategy of developing vehicles specifically for Chinese customers by working more closely with domestic technology companies and suppliers.
