BMW Group Electric Car Sales Surge 37.5% in Europe

The BMW Group is seeing stronger demand for its electric vehicles in Europe and the United States, despite challenging market conditions in China and a decline in overall global deliveries during the first nine months of 2026. Fully electric vehicle sales gained significant momentum in Europe, where battery-electric models accounted for more than one-third of the group’s deliveries in the third quarter.

Between January and September 2026, the BMW Group delivered more than 1.7 million vehicles worldwide, down 4.9% compared with the same period last year. However, sales increased by 4.5% in Europe and 3.4% in the United States, highlighting the company’s resilience in two important markets.

The strongest momentum came from fully electric vehicles, supported by growing customer interest in BMW’s latest models and its upcoming Neue Klasse technology.

BMW Electric Car Sales Climb 37.5% in Europe

The BMW Group delivered 110,257 fully electric vehicles worldwide between July and September 2026, representing an increase of 7.2%.

Europe was a particularly strong market for the company’s electric vehicle lineup. BMW Group deliveries of fully electric vehicles in the region reached 81,941 units during the third quarter, up 37.5% year over year.

Fully electric vehicles accounted for 34.7% of all BMW Group vehicles delivered in Europe during the period. Germany also recorded strong growth, with deliveries of the group’s battery-electric models increasing by 38.5%.

The figures highlight the growing importance of electric vehicles to BMW’s European business, even as overall global deliveries remain under pressure.

Jochen Goller, BMW AG’s Board of Management member responsible for Customer, Brands and Sales, said the company had maintained its position in Europe and the United States despite difficult market conditions. He also pointed to strong orders for fully electric vehicles and positive customer interest in the new BMW iX3, BMW 3 Series and BMW X5.

BMW expects its Neue Klasse models and technologies to provide additional momentum as the company continues expanding its electric vehicle offering.

BMW Sales Rise in Europe and the US Despite Global Decline

The BMW brand delivered approximately 1.5 million vehicles worldwide during the first nine months of 2026, a decline of 6.4%.

Despite the overall decrease, the brand recorded growth in Europe, where deliveries increased by 1.4%. In the United States, BMW sales rose by 4.3%, outperforming the broader market, which was experiencing a decline.

Higher demand for BMW X models helped drive the brand’s performance in the US, while its European results benefited from continued customer interest in its vehicle lineup.

China remained a significant challenge. BMW brand sales in the country fell by 21.2% through September, reflecting the difficult conditions affecting the wider automotive market.

The company is preparing to introduce the China-specific version of the new BMW iX3 in November 2026, a launch that could help strengthen its position in one of the world’s largest electric vehicle markets.

BMW M GmbH, the group’s performance division, delivered 148,510 vehicles worldwide during the first nine months of the year, down 6.1%. Its sales remained stable within China’s declining market.

MINI Electric Models Help Drive Sales Growth

MINI continued to deliver positive results, with worldwide sales reaching 220,247 vehicles between January and September 2026. That represents an increase of 6.8% compared with the same period in 2025.

Electrification is playing an important role in MINI’s performance. Fully electric vehicles accounted for 37.2% of the brand’s total deliveries during the first nine months of the year.

Strong demand for John Cooper Works models and the MINI Paul Smith Edition contributed to the brand’s growth. MINI also expects the new Countryman Untamed Edition to provide additional momentum.

The results suggest that electric vehicles are becoming an increasingly important part of MINI’s product strategy, alongside the appeal of its performance-oriented models and special editions.

Rolls-Royce and BMW Motorrad Report Lower Deliveries

Not every part of the BMW Group recorded growth during the period.

Rolls-Royce delivered 3,592 vehicles worldwide between January and September 2026, down 12.4% year over year.

BMW Motorrad, meanwhile, sold 149,452 motorcycles and scooters during the first nine months of the year, representing a decline of 6.1%.

These results contributed to the broader picture of a mixed performance across the BMW Group’s businesses, with growth in selected markets and segments offset by weaker demand elsewhere.

Neue Klasse Could Strengthen BMW’s Electric Future

BMW’s latest sales figures show that its electric vehicle business is gaining traction in Europe, even as the company faces headwinds in China and lower overall global deliveries.

The 37.5% increase in European battery-electric vehicle sales during the third quarter stands out as a key development. With fully electric models accounting for 34.7% of the group’s European deliveries, EVs are becoming a more substantial part of its regional sales mix.

The upcoming China-specific BMW iX3 launch and the continued rollout of Neue Klasse models could play an important role in the company’s next phase of growth.

For BMW, the challenge will be to build on its electric vehicle momentum while improving its performance in China and stabilizing global deliveries. The latest figures suggest that demand for its electric models remains a significant source of strength, particularly in Europe.
