2027 Lexus NX Gets 324 HP Plug-In Hybrid, 45-Mile Electric Range and DC Fast Charging

Lexus has unveiled the updated 2027 NX, bringing a more powerful plug-in hybrid system, improved efficiency, sharper styling and a more advanced interior to its popular luxury crossover. The new model also introduces a fully electrified lineup, with buyers choosing between conventional hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains.

The 2027 Lexus NX 350h delivers a preliminary combined output of 244 horsepower, while the NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid increases output to 324 hp. The latter also gains a manufacturer-estimated 45 miles of all-electric range and standard DC fast-charging capability.

Lexus expects the updated NX to reach global markets by the end of 2026. Official EPA fuel economy ratings and pricing will be announced closer to its market launch.

2027 Lexus NX 350h and NX 450h+ Get More Power

The 2027 Lexus NX lineup consists of two electrified powertrains: the NX 350h hybrid and the NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid. Both use a revised 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine paired with updated electric-drive technology.

The NX 350h produces a preliminary 244 hp, a modest four-horsepower increase over the outgoing model. More significant changes focus on smoother acceleration, improved energy management and greater use of electric power under acceleration.

Lexus has redesigned the hybrid system around a compact e-Axle assembly that integrates the transaxle, electric motor and power control unit. The more compact and lightweight arrangement helps lower the vehicle’s center of gravity, while silicon carbide power semiconductors in the inverter contribute to improved efficiency.

The revised system also manages the relationship between engine speed and road speed more naturally, addressing one of the traditional characteristics of hybrid powertrains during hard acceleration.

The NX 450h+ receives a more substantial performance upgrade. Its combined output rises to 324 hp, compared with 304 hp in the 2026 model.

The plug-in hybrid’s revised lithium-ion battery delivers an 8% increase in output and an 8% increase in capacity, according to Lexus. The front electric motor’s output also increases from 180 hp to 203 hp, while the rear motor continues to produce 54 hp.

These changes make the NX 450h+ a more powerful option for drivers who want electric driving capability without giving up the flexibility of a gasoline engine for longer journeys.

Lexus NX 450h+ Offers 45 Miles of Electric Range

One of the biggest improvements for the 2027 Lexus NX 450h+ is its increased electric driving range.

Lexus estimates that the plug-in hybrid can travel up to 45 miles on electric power alone. The figure is a manufacturer estimate, with official EPA ratings expected closer to the vehicle’s on-sale date.

The new battery also benefits from a revised cell layout. By arranging the cells transversely rather than longitudinally, Lexus has improved lateral body rigidity and positioned the battery lower in the vehicle to help reduce the center of gravity.

Charging capability receives a major upgrade as well. DC fast charging is now standard on all NX 450h+ grades, alongside a dedicated Power Charge Port Door and a North American Charging Standard (NACS)-style charging connection for the U.S. market.

Under ideal conditions, Lexus estimates that charging from 10% to 80% takes approximately 35 minutes when using a 50-kW DC charging station. A 240-volt AC charger can replenish the battery from 10% to 100% in approximately 2.5 hours.

The addition of DC fast charging gives the NX 450h+ greater flexibility for drivers who want to recharge during longer trips, rather than relying exclusively on home charging.

For drivers who do not need plug-in charging, the standard NX 350h hybrid remains the alternative. It combines gasoline power with electric assistance without requiring an external charging connection.

Improved Fuel Economy Across the NX Lineup

Alongside the power increases, Lexus has released preliminary manufacturer-estimated fuel economy figures for the 2027 NX.

The NX 350h front-wheel-drive model is estimated to return 40 mpg combined, while the all-wheel-drive version is rated at 38 mpg combined. The NX 350h F SPORT is also estimated at 38 mpg combined.

For the plug-in hybrid, Lexus estimates 37 mpg combined for the NX 450h+ and 36 mpg combined for the NX 450h+ F SPORT. Both plug-in hybrid versions are estimated to provide 45 miles of all-electric range.

These are manufacturer estimates, not final EPA ratings. Actual fuel economy and electric range will depend on driving conditions, temperature, charging habits and other factors.

Revised Chassis and Standard All-Wheel Drive Options

Lexus has made changes to the NX’s steering, suspension, braking system and body structure to improve driving dynamics and ride comfort.

Additional structural reinforcement increases body rigidity, while revised suspension components and steering calibration aim to deliver a more responsive and predictable driving experience.

Development and chassis tuning took place at the Toyota Technical Center Shimoyama in Japan, with additional testing at Germany’s Nürburgring.

The electronically controlled E-Four all-wheel-drive system is standard on the NX 350h F SPORT and Luxury grades. It is available on the Premium and Premium+ hybrid versions and standard across the NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid lineup.

The updated system can maintain all-wheel-drive operation during straight-line driving as well as acceleration, cornering and low-traction conditions. Lexus says the revised rear motor control helps improve stability and road contact, including on slippery surfaces.

Sharper Exterior Design for the 2027 Lexus NX

The updated NX retains the familiar proportions of the current crossover but adopts a more modern interpretation of Lexus’ design language.

At the front, a redesigned mesh grille integrates more closely with the lighting elements, creating a wider and lower visual stance. The grille is also designed to improve cooling and aerodynamic performance.

The headlights feature a distinctive dual-line lighting signature, integrating the daytime running lights and turn signals. At the rear, Lexus introduces its first Double L Signature, combining illuminated L-shaped elements with an illuminated Lexus logo.

Chrome exterior details have largely been replaced with black accents for a cleaner, sportier appearance.

The color palette includes nine exterior finishes, with new Shaded Ivy and Incognito among the additions. Incognito is reserved for F SPORT grades.

The NX F SPORT also gains exclusive front under spoilers, side aerodynamic elements, rear corner devices and Piano Black exterior trim. Lightweight 20-inch aluminum wheels and available red brake calipers further distinguish the sportier version.

More Luxurious Interior With Standard 14-Inch Display

Inside, the 2027 Lexus NX receives an upgraded dashboard layout and new technology designed to improve usability and cabin refinement.

Every model now comes with a 14-inch Lexus Interface touchscreen, paired with a 12.3-inch digital instrument display. The horizontally aligned screens place vehicle information and infotainment functions within easier reach of the driver.

A redesigned steering wheel and a soft-touch control panel with Responsive Hidden Switches contribute to a cleaner dashboard design. Ambient lighting extends across the instrument panel and into the door trim, emphasizing the cabin’s horizontal layout.

Selected F SPORT and Luxury grades also feature Sensory Concierge, which coordinates lighting, audio, climate settings, seat temperature and fragrance to create a more personalized cabin environment.

An available Mark Levinson audio system adds illuminated speaker details, while the interior color selection includes new Abalos and the F SPORT-exclusive Radiant Red.

Lexus Safety System+ 4.0 Comes Standard

The 2027 NX also benefits from Lexus Safety System+ 4.0, which is standard across the lineup.

The updated driver-assistance package includes a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Risk Avoidance Emergency Steer Assist, Intersection Turn Assist, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and Lane Tracing Assist.

Additional features include Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Road Sign Assist, Automatic High Beams and Proactive Driving Assist.

Depending on the grade and equipment, buyers can also get additional technologies such as Traffic Jam Assist, Rear Pedestrian Detection and Front Cross-Traffic Alert.

The updated Lexus Interface also incorporates a standard Drive Recorder that uses the vehicle’s exterior cameras to capture and save video clips associated with manual or triggered events. Digital Key is available, allowing compatible smartphones to function as vehicle keys.

2027 Lexus NX Grades and Availability

Lexus has simplified the NX range to four grades: Premium, Premium+, F SPORT and Luxury.

Both the NX 350h hybrid and NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid will be offered within this revised lineup. Front-wheel drive is available on selected NX 350h versions, while the plug-in hybrid comes exclusively with all-wheel drive.

Pricing has not yet been announced. Lexus expects the updated NX to become available across global markets by the end of 2026, with final EPA fuel economy figures to follow closer to its U.S. market launch.

A More Capable Electrified Luxury Crossover

The 2027 Lexus NX brings meaningful upgrades to both of its electrified powertrains. The NX 350h focuses on efficiency and smoother hybrid operation, while the NX 450h+ combines 324 hp with a manufacturer-estimated 45 miles of electric range and standard DC fast charging.

The sharper exterior, more sophisticated interior, standard 14-inch touchscreen and expanded driver-assistance technology round out the changes.

With the entire NX lineup now moving to hybrid and plug-in hybrid power, Lexus is strengthening its position in the luxury compact crossover segment while giving buyers more choice in how they use electric power in everyday driving.
