Chery is preparing for another major expansion in the UK, with the Chinese automaker planning to launch four new and refreshed models over the next 12 months, including its first fully electric vehicle for the British market.
The announcement comes as Chery celebrates its first year of sales in the UK. Since entering the market in August 2025, the automaker has recorded more than 29,000 vehicle registrations and achieved a market share of over 2.5%, putting it ahead of several established automotive brands.
With its initial UK launch exceeding expectations, Chery is now targeting further growth through electrification, new vehicle segments and products tailored more closely to British customers.
The biggest development in Chery’s UK strategy will be the arrival of its first electric vehicle in the market.
The company has not yet revealed full specifications for the upcoming EV, but its launch represents an important step in Chery’s broader electrification strategy. The new model will expand the company’s offering beyond its current range of petrol and hybrid vehicles and allow it to compete for a larger share of Britain’s growing electric car market.
Chery’s focus on electrified vehicles is already evident in its sales performance. Models equipped with the company’s Chery Super Hybrid (CSH) system currently account for around 75% of Chery UK registrations.
That strong demand is encouraging the automaker to further develop its plug-in hybrid technology.
Chery will introduce upgrades to its CSH system across the TIGGO 4, TIGGO 7, TIGGO 8 and TIGGO 9 ranges.
The updated system will feature larger battery packs, allowing compatible models to travel farther on electric power while reducing fuel consumption and emissions.
The improvements are particularly significant as plug-in hybrids continue to appeal to drivers who want electric driving for shorter journeys without giving up the longer-distance flexibility of an internal-combustion engine.
Chery’s approach also gives the company a way to increase its electrified vehicle sales while its first dedicated UK EV prepares to join the lineup.
Chery says the four new and refreshed models will help it enter new segments, increase customer choice and continue building its presence in the highly competitive UK automotive market.
The company’s next phase will therefore combine new vehicle launches, upgraded hybrid technology and further investment in local product development.
Rather than relying solely on its existing lineup, Chery plans to target additional segments and reach customers who may not yet have considered the brand.
New UK R&D Centre to Shape Future Chery Models
Chery is also investing in its UK engineering capabilities through a new R&D Centre of Excellence at the UTAC Millbrook proving ground in Bedfordshire.
The facility is expected to become an important part of Chery’s UK strategy. An engineering team is being established to gain a deeper understanding of local customer requirements and help accelerate product improvements.
The company says the UK-based development operation will also support the introduction of new features and functions designed specifically around market needs.
This could become increasingly important as Chery expands its electric and hybrid portfolio. Local engineering and testing can help the automaker adapt its vehicles to UK driving conditions and customer expectations rather than relying exclusively on global product development.
Chery Targets the Next Stage of UK Growth
Chery’s first year in the UK has given the company a strong starting point, but the next 12 months could prove even more significant.
The arrival of its first UK electric car, combined with larger batteries and improved electric range for its CSH plug-in hybrid models, will significantly increase the brand’s electrified offering.
With four new and updated models planned and a dedicated UK R&D operation being developed, Chery is positioning itself for a much larger role in the British automotive market.
The automaker’s rapid growth also highlights the increasing competition facing established carmakers as Chinese brands continue expanding their presence in Europe with increasingly electrified vehicle lineups.
For UK buyers, Chery’s expansion should mean more choice across electric and plug-in hybrid segments as the company moves into its second year on the market.
