The 2027 Lexus ES enters its second model year with the brand’s first all-electric ES models, the ES 350e and ES 500e, continuing into 2027 with no major changes.
Built on Lexus’ new multi-pathway platform, the electric ES combines a luxury-sedan focus with a 74.7-kWh battery, up to 307 miles of EPA-estimated range, NACS charging and the latest Lexus technology. The ES 350e uses front-wheel drive, while the more powerful ES 500e adds a second motor and all-wheel drive.
The 2027 ES lineup also includes the ES 350h hybrid, sharing the same basic design and platform while using Lexus’ latest gas-electric hybrid system.
2027 Lexus ES 350e and ES 500e: What’s New?
The biggest story remains the arrival of the all-electric ES models.
The 2027 Lexus ES 350e uses a single 221-horsepower electric motor driving the front wheels. The ES 500e adds a 118-hp rear motor for a combined 338 hp and Lexus DIRECT4 all-wheel drive.
Both electric models use the same 74.7-kWh lithium-ion battery mounted beneath the passenger compartment.
Every 2027 ES also gets a 12.3-inch digital Multi-Information Display and a 14-inch Lexus Interface touchscreen. Lexus Safety System+ 4.0 is standard across the lineup.
For buyers seeking an especially luxurious rear-seat experience, an Executive package is available on the ES 350e Luxury. It adds power-adjustable rear seating, heating and ventilation, massage functionality and a passenger-side ottoman.
A Larger, More Distinctive Electric Luxury Sedan
The eighth-generation ES brings a significant visual departure from the previous model.
Its design draws inspiration from the Lexus LF-ZC concept, with slim L-shaped LED running lights, a distinctive front-end treatment and a full-width-style rear lighting design. The electric ES models also receive a smoother front fascia designed to improve aerodynamic efficiency.
The ES BEVs have a 0.25 drag coefficient, while their larger dimensions create additional passenger space. The electric models have a 3.1-inch-longer wheelbase, are 2.2 inches wider, 6.5 inches longer and 4.5 inches taller than the previous-generation ES.
That translates into improvements throughout the cabin, including additional rear legroom and greater front-seat shoulder and hip room.
Standard 19-inch aluminum wheels are fitted to the ES. Buyers can also choose 21-inch wheels, depending on the trim and model.
2027 Lexus ES Interior and Technology
The ES continues Lexus’ traditional emphasis on a quiet, comfortable cabin, but the latest model adds a much more digital interior.
Every ES 350e and ES 500e features a 12.3-inch digital driver display and a 14-inch central touchscreen running the latest Lexus Interface software. The system features a redesigned home menu, larger information tiles and support for two Bluetooth phones simultaneously.
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, along with wireless device charging. Premium versions receive a 10-speaker Lexus sound system, while Luxury models can be equipped with a 17-speaker, 1,800-watt Mark Levinson PurePlay Surround Sound System.
Luxury versions also bring higher-grade materials, including semi-aniline leather seating and bamboo-inspired interior trim.
The optional Executive package takes the rear cabin even further, adding heated and ventilated rear seats, massage functionality, additional power adjustment and a deployable ottoman.
2027 Lexus ES Electric Power and Performance
The ES 350e is the efficiency-focused member of the electric lineup.
Its single permanent-magnet synchronous motor produces 221 hp, driving the front wheels. Lexus estimates a 0-60 mph time of 7.4 seconds.
The ES 500e is considerably quicker. It retains the 221-hp front motor and adds a 118-hp motor at the rear, producing 338 hp in total. The result is DIRECT4 all-wheel drive and an estimated 0-60 mph time of 5.1 seconds.
Lexus’ DIRECT4 system continuously manages torque distribution between the front and rear axles. Depending on driving conditions, the system can vary the balance from front-biased to rear-biased operation, while launch and acceleration are optimized to reduce vehicle pitch.
For a luxury sedan, the emphasis is less on outright performance and more on combining acceleration with a smooth, quiet driving experience.
2027 Lexus ES Electric Range
Range is one of the strongest aspects of the new electric ES.
The 2027 Lexus ES 350e achieves an EPA-estimated 307 miles of range with standard 19-inch wheels. Choosing the available 21-inch wheels reduces that figure to 292 miles.
The dual-motor ES 500e delivers an EPA-estimated 276 miles with 19-inch wheels, or 272 miles with the optional 21-inch wheels.
That makes the ES 350e the model to choose for buyers who prioritize maximum driving range, while the ES 500e trades some range for additional power and all-wheel-drive traction.
Lexus also focuses heavily on refinement. Laminated side glass and the brand’s Lexus Driving Signature are designed to reduce road and wind noise while maintaining controlled handling.
2027 Lexus ES Charging and NACS
The electric ES adopts the North American Charging System (NACS), making it compatible with the growing network of NACS-equipped public chargers.
A CCS-to-NACS adapter is included, giving ES owners access to more than 76,000 Level 2 and Level 3 public charging stations nationwide, according to Lexus.
The onboard AC charger supports up to 11 kW. Under ideal conditions, Level 2 charging can take approximately seven hours.
DC fast charging can increase the battery from 10% to 80% in about 28 minutes, with charging speeds of up to 150 kW.
Battery preconditioning can help prepare the battery for faster DC charging. The system can be activated through the touchscreen or automatically when a compatible public charger is selected as a destination through Cloud Navigation.
The Lexus app also adds EV-specific functions, including charging-station searches, an EV Knowledge Hub and charging-related account features. Plug & Charge capability is also available, allowing compatible charging networks to handle authentication and payment after an initial setup.
Lexus Safety System+ 4.0 Comes Standard
Safety remains a major selling point for the 2027 Lexus ES.
Every ES comes standard with Lexus Safety System+ 4.0, which includes a broad collection of active safety and driver-assistance technologies.
The system includes Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Risk Avoidance Emergency Steer Assist, Intersection Turn Assist, Full-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Tracing Assist, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Road Sign Assist, Intelligent High Beams and Proactive Driving Assist.
Additional technologies available on ES BEV models include Traffic Jam Assist, Lane Change Assist, Rear Pedestrian Detection and Front Cross-Traffic Alert.
Traffic Jam Assist can provide hands-free steering assistance in certain low-speed traffic situations, while Lane Change Assist can automatically perform a lane change when operating conditions allow.
2027 Lexus ES Connected Features
The electric ES also offers an extensive collection of connected services.
Cloud Navigation uses online points-of-interest information and traffic data to provide updated routes, while Intelligent Assistant enables voice commands through the “Hey, Lexus” wake phrase.
Remote Connect allows owners to perform functions such as remotely locking or unlocking the vehicle, starting it and adjusting the climate system through the Lexus app.
Other connected services include Safety Connect, Service Connect and Wi-Fi Connect. Several services include complimentary trial periods, with some requiring an active subscription afterward.
Which 2027 Lexus ES Electric Model Is Better?
The choice between the ES 350e and ES 500e largely comes down to priorities.
The ES 350e is the better option for buyers who want the longest possible range and a simpler front-wheel-drive configuration. Its 307-mile EPA-estimated range gives it a meaningful advantage for long-distance driving.
The ES 500e is aimed at buyers who want more performance and all-weather traction. Its 338 hp and DIRECT4 all-wheel drive make it substantially quicker, although range falls to 276 miles with the standard wheels.
For most luxury-EV buyers focused on efficiency and cruising range, the ES 350e makes the stronger case. Those who value acceleration and AWD will find the ES 500e more appealing.
2027 Lexus ES: A Serious New Electric Luxury Sedan
The 2027 Lexus ES 350e and ES 500e represent an important step for Lexus as the brand expands its battery-electric lineup.
Rather than turning the ES into a performance-focused EV, Lexus has preserved the model’s traditional strengths: comfort, quietness, premium materials and a relaxed driving experience. The addition of up to 307 miles of EPA-estimated range, NACS charging, a modern digital cabin and standard Lexus Safety System+ 4.0 makes the electric ES a compelling alternative to established luxury EV sedans.
The ES 350e stands out for its combination of range and efficiency, while the ES 500e provides substantially stronger performance and all-wheel-drive capability.
For luxury-car buyers considering an electric sedan in 2027, the new Lexus ES deserves a place on the shortlist.
