Volvo is expanding its in-car entertainment experience by rolling out native Apple Music integration to more than two million vehicles worldwide through an over-the-air (OTA) software update. The feature will also come pre-installed on the new Volvo EX60 when customer deliveries begin later this summer.
The update marks another step in Volvo’s software-first approach, giving owners access to one of the world’s largest music streaming platforms directly from the vehicle’s infotainment system without relying on smartphone mirroring.
Apple Music Arrives Across Volvo’s Lineup
The new Apple Music app will be available on Volvo models equipped with the Android Automotive OS infotainment system. Drivers will be able to sign in with their Apple account to access more than 100 million ad-free songs, curated playlists, albums, and live radio stations using either the touchscreen or voice controls.
Volvo is also making it easier for new subscribers to switch by supporting Apple’s playlist and music library transfer tools, allowing users to bring their existing collections from other streaming services.
Eligible customers will receive up to three months of Apple Music at no additional cost. The promotional offer is available until July 6, 2027.
Spatial Audio Enhances the Premium Experience
Owners of the Volvo EX60, EX90 and ES90 will benefit from an even more immersive listening experience thanks to Apple Music Spatial Audio powered by Dolby Atmos.
Combined with the optional Bowers & Wilkins premium sound system, the technology creates a multidimensional soundstage that surrounds occupants with greater clarity and depth, turning the cabin into a high-end listening environment.
Volvo says the EX60, EX90 and ES90 are its quietest production vehicles to date thanks to advanced sound insulation, allowing the premium audio system to perform at its best. The available Bowers & Wilkins setup features carefully tuned speakers throughout the cabin and the company’s True Sound technology, which has been optimized specifically for each vehicle’s interior acoustics.
Expanding Volvo’s Connected Car Ecosystem
Volvo vehicles running Android Automotive already support streaming services such as Spotify and Tidal through the Google Play Store. The addition of Apple Music gives customers another native option while further strengthening the connected experience across the brand’s growing lineup of software-defined vehicles.
“Many of our customers use Apple Music on their phones or in their homes today. By bringing Apple Music directly into our cars, we’re making them an extraordinary place to experience music,” said Alwin Bakkenes, Head of Global Software Engineering at Volvo Cars.
Models Receiving the Update
Volvo confirmed that the OTA update will be available for the following models: Volvo EX90, ES90, XC90, S90, V90, XC60, S60, V60, XC40, EX40 and EC40, from model year 2020 and onwards.
While Volvo has confirmed the rollout, the automaker has not announced a precise schedule for when the software update will begin reaching existing vehicles.
With native Apple Music support, immersive Spatial Audio in its latest electric models, and seamless OTA deployment, Volvo continues to enhance the ownership experience through software while reinforcing its focus on premium in-car technology.
