Milence is accelerating the rollout of Europe’s electric truck charging infrastructure with the opening of two strategically important charging hubs in the Netherlands and Denmark.
The new sites strengthen key Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) freight corridors while demonstrating the company’s commitment to sustainable construction and reliable long-haul charging for battery-electric trucks.
The expansion marks another step forward in Milence’s mission to build Europe’s largest public charging network dedicated to heavy-duty electric transport.
Milence expands its European charging network
Milence, the joint venture between Daimler Truck, the TRATON GROUP, and the Volvo Group, continues to grow its high-power charging network across Europe with new hubs in Deurningen-Hengelo, the Netherlands, and Padborg, Denmark.
The Dutch location is Milence’s fourth charging hub in the Netherlands, while the Padborg facility is the company’s first public charging hub in Denmark. Together, the sites strengthen two of Europe’s most important freight corridors—the North Sea–Baltic TEN-T Corridor and the Scandinavian–Mediterranean TEN-T Corridor—making cross-border electric freight transport more practical and reliable.
Netherlands hub showcases sustainable construction
Located at the well-known Frans op den Bult truck stop along the A1 motorway, the Deurningen-Hengelo charging hub is notable not only for its strategic location but also for how it was built.
Milence constructed the site using electric construction equipment, making it the company’s first charging hub developed with zero-emission machinery. The project served as a real-world test case for integrating electric construction equipment into charging infrastructure development, providing valuable experience in planning, logistics, and on-site charging of heavy machinery.
Working alongside construction partners, including equipment supplier Hoogeboom, Milence evaluated both the benefits and challenges of low-emission construction. The lessons learned are expected to support future charging hub developments across Europe.
The company also incorporated more sustainable building materials throughout the project. The signature Milence arches and canopies are built using fully PEFC-certified timber, reducing the structures’ carbon footprint compared with conventional materials.
Below ground, the hub uses fiber-reinforced concrete and glass fiber dowels instead of traditional steel reinforcement where possible, further lowering the environmental impact without compromising structural performance.
High-power charging along a major freight route
The Deurningen-Hengelo site features five charging bays equipped with 400 kW CCS chargers and has been designed for future expansion as demand for electric freight transport grows.
Its location along the A1 motorway connects major logistics routes between the Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium, making it an important stop for international freight operators.
Drivers also benefit from the facilities already available at Frans op den Bult, including secure truck parking, restaurant services, and sanitary facilities, allowing them to recharge both their vehicles and themselves during mandatory rest breaks.
Pauline Scholten-Hellegers, owner of Frans op den Bult, said the partnership builds on the truck stop’s long history while preparing it for the future of road transport, offering drivers everything they need for a safe and comfortable journey.
Maarten Jaspers, Chief Operating Officer of Milence, said sustainability guides every aspect of the company’s operations—from accelerating electric road transport to reducing the environmental impact of constructing charging infrastructure. He added that the Dutch project provides valuable insights that will help make future charging hubs even more efficient and sustainable.
First Danish charging hub opens in Padborg
Milence has also entered the Danish market with the opening of its first public charging hub near Padborg, one of Northern Europe’s most important logistics gateways at the Denmark-Germany border.
The new hub provides a key charging location for long-haul battery-electric trucks operating between the Nordic countries and Central Europe, strengthening connectivity along the Scandinavian–Mediterranean TEN-T corridor.
During its initial phase, the Padborg site offers four charging bays powered by 400 kW CCS chargers, with additional driver amenities planned as the facility expands.
According to Milence CEO Anja van Niersen, Padborg’s location at the intersection of major European freight routes makes it a natural addition to the company’s rapidly expanding charging network and supports the continued growth of long-haul electric trucking across Europe.
Building Europe’s largest electric truck charging network
With the opening of the Danish site, Milence now operates 37 public charging hubs across nine European countries, continuing its rapid expansion of dedicated infrastructure for heavy-duty electric vehicles.
The company is also preparing for the next generation of commercial vehicle charging through the rollout of the Megawatt Charging System (MCS). The ultra-fast charging technology is already available at selected hubs in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Sweden, with additional deployments planned across the network, including future installations in Denmark.
Milence also offers flexible payment options for fleet operators and drivers, including contactless payment, e-Mobility Service Provider (eMSP) cards, and the Milence Charge Card. In Denmark, charging starts at DKK 2.799 per kWh (excluding VAT) for ad hoc users, while fleet customers can access volume-based pricing agreements to support the transition to zero-emission transport.
As Europe continues shifting toward battery-electric freight transport, Milence’s expanding network is helping establish the charging infrastructure needed to support reliable, long-distance commercial vehicle operations across the continent.
