Volkswagen Launches ID. UNYX 07 Sedan and Updated ID. UNYX 06 SUV in China

Volkswagen is accelerating its push in China’s highly competitive electric vehicle market with the launch of the new ID. UNYX 07 sedan and the updated ID. UNYX 06 SUV. Both models are built by Volkswagen Anhui and officially went on sale in China over the weekend.

The launches form a key part of Volkswagen’s broader strategy to regain momentum in the world’s largest EV market, where domestic brands continue to intensify competition through aggressive pricing and rapid technology development.

The new ID. UNYX 07 sedan starts at 129,900 yuan, though a limited-time promotional offer lowers the entry price to 109,900 yuan for customers placing orders before June 1. Meanwhile, the refreshed ID. UNYX 06 SUV carries a starting suggested retail price of 149,900 yuan, with temporary purchase incentives reducing the price to 134,900 yuan.

ID. UNYX 07 Debuts Volkswagen’s China-Focused EV Architecture

The ID. UNYX 07 is particularly significant because it becomes Volkswagen’s first fully electric production model equipped with the new China Electronic Architecture (CEA), developed specifically for the Chinese market in collaboration with XPeng.

The new architecture introduces centralized computing and zonal control technology, marking an important step in Volkswagen’s effort to develop more advanced in-house vehicle software systems tailored for Chinese consumers.

Dimensionally, the ID. UNYX 07 is slightly larger than the Tesla Model 3 and features a 60 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery supplied by Gotion High-tech. A single rear-mounted electric motor delivers 170 kW (228 horsepower), while the sedan offers up to 558 kilometers of range under the CLTC testing cycle.

Smart Technology Takes Center Stage

Volkswagen is positioning smart technology as the main attraction for both new EV models. The ID. UNYX 07 and ID. UNYX 06 come standard with the MediaTek 8676 cockpit chip and a connected four-screen smart cockpit system designed to enhance the in-car digital experience.

Both vehicles also include a vision-based highway Navigation on Autopilot (NOA) system as standard equipment. Volkswagen plans to further expand autonomous driving capabilities later this year with a higher-end version featuring LiDAR technology capable of supporting urban NOA functionality in more complex driving environments.

Updated ID. UNYX 06 Gains More Range and Features

The updated ID. UNYX 06 SUV receives several upgrades aimed at improving its competitiveness in China’s crowded electric SUV segment. Changes include a refreshed interior design, enhanced smart functions, and improved driving range.

Like the sedan, the SUV uses a 170 kW rear electric motor. Its upgraded battery system now delivers a CLTC-rated driving range of up to 528 kilometers.

Volkswagen Anhui Expands EV Ambitions

Volkswagen Anhui was originally established in 2017 as a joint venture between Volkswagen and Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group, focusing exclusively on new energy vehicles.

Initially launched as JAC Volkswagen Automotive Co Ltd, the company was restructured in late 2020 after Volkswagen increased its ownership stake to 75%, leading to the current Volkswagen Anhui branding.

The joint venture introduced its first production model, the ID. UNYX electric compact coupe SUV, in July 2024. Earlier this year, the company replaced that model with the ID. UNYX 06 as part of a broader product renewal strategy.

Looking ahead, Volkswagen Anhui plans to further expand its EV lineup with a new flagship sedan scheduled to debut in the fourth quarter of 2026, reinforcing the brand’s long-term ambitions in China’s fast-evolving electric vehicle market.
