GM’s Baojun Huajing S Debuts as Flagship Plug-In Hybrid Family SUV

SAIC-GM-Wuling has unveiled the all-new Baojun Huajing S, a flagship three-row plug-in hybrid SUV aimed at families prioritizing space, technology and long-distance efficiency.

Positioned at the top of the brand’s lineup, the model blends a large, practical cabin with advanced driver assistance and a long electric driving range.

Large Dimensions and Practical Six-Seat Layout

The Huajing S is built with family usability in mind, measuring 5,235 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width and 1,800 mm in height, with a generous 3,105 mm wheelbase. Its three-row, six-seat configuration focuses on everyday comfort rather than occasional third-row use.

Cargo flexibility is a highlight. Even with all seats occupied, the SUV offers a 423-liter dual-level trunk capable of accommodating multiple suitcases, reinforcing its long-distance travel credentials.

Huawei-Powered Smart Technology Suite

A key selling point is the integration of technologies from Huawei. The Huajing S comes standard with Huawei Qiankun ADS Pro, an advanced driver assistance system designed for both urban and highway scenarios.

The system supports navigation-assisted driving, including handling stop-and-go traffic, roundabouts and narrow roads. It also incorporates Huawei’s in-cabin LiDAR solution to improve obstacle detection and situational awareness.

Inside, the HarmonySpace 5 cockpit and Huawei iVCS cloud services deliver a connected digital experience, while a suite of intelligent parking features enhances usability in tight environments.

Refined Exterior Design and Premium Cabin

Baojun has opted for a restrained design language, focusing on clean lines and balanced proportions. The front end avoids aggressive styling in favor of a calm, premium appearance, while the rear emphasizes width with a minimalistic layout.

Lighting technology includes matrix LED headlamps and full-width optical matrix taillamps, adding a modern signature without unnecessary visual complexity.

Inside, the cabin is packed with high-end features designed for comfort across all three rows. Highlights include:

– 15.6-inch front and rear smart displays
– Heated, ventilated and massaging seats in the first two rows
– An 8.8-liter hot-and-cold refrigerator
– 15-speaker Infinity audio system
– Dual panoramic roofs and ambient lighting

The third row is engineered for daily usability, not just occasional trips, while ride quality is enhanced by an anti-motion-sickness system and a focus on low noise, vibration and harshness.

Strong Performance and Long Electric Range

The Huajing S combines a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with an intelligent all-wheel-drive system, delivering up to 386 kW and 620 Nm of torque. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes just 5.2 seconds, placing it among the quicker SUVs in its class.

Efficiency is another key strength. The powertrain achieves up to 43.2% thermal efficiency, enabling fuel consumption as low as 5.98 L/100 km for two-wheel-drive models and 6.98 L/100 km for all-wheel-drive versions.

Total driving range exceeds 1,100 km on a full tank and charge. In electric mode, the SUV can travel up to 255 km (CLTC), making it suitable for extended zero-emission commuting.

Fast-charging capability is also notable, with support for 3.5C charging that allows the battery to recharge from 10% to 60% in just 12 minutes.

Safety and Advanced Battery Engineering

Safety remains central to the Huajing S package. The SUV is engineered to meet the latest C-NCAP five-star standard and features a high-strength body incorporating ultra-high-strength steel rated at 2,000 MPa.

A total of nine airbags with 14 chambers are combined with Huawei Qiankun CAS 4.0, offering 23 active safety functions.

The Shenlian Battery 3.0, equipped with cells from CATL, is designed with a system-level safety approach and has passed multiple validation tests exceeding China’s latest national battery standards.

Production of the Huajing S takes place at SGMW’s I²MS intelligent manufacturing plant, a facility recognized for advanced automation and high-quality production standards. This supports Baojun’s push into more premium, technology-focused vehicles.

A Tech-Focused Family SUV for Long-Distance Driving

The Baojun Huajing S positions itself as a compelling option in the growing plug-in hybrid SUV segment. By combining a long electric range, fast charging, advanced Huawei technology and a genuinely usable three-row cabin, it targets buyers seeking an electrified family vehicle without range anxiety.

As competition intensifies in the large SUV market, models like the Huajing S highlight how Chinese automakers are accelerating innovation in connectivity, efficiency and real-world usability.
