Samsung SDI to Supply EV Batteries to Mercedes-Benz in Multi-Year Deal

Samsung SDI has officially entered the global premium EV supply chain after signing a multi-year battery agreement with Mercedes-Benz. The deal marks the company’s first-ever electric vehicle battery supply partnership with the German automaker and signals a strategic step forward in the competitive EV battery market.

The agreement was formalized during a signing ceremony in Seoul, attended by senior executives from both companies, underscoring the importance of the collaboration for future electric mobility.

High-Performance Batteries for Next-Generation EVs

Under the terms of the deal, Samsung SDI will supply advanced battery packs designed for Mercedes-Benz’s upcoming electric vehicles. These batteries will feature high-nickel NCM (nickel, cobalt, manganese) chemistry, known for delivering higher energy density and improved performance.

The technology is expected to provide:

– Increased driving range
– Enhanced battery lifespan
– Strong power output
– Advanced safety features using Samsung SDI’s proprietary solutions

This aligns with the growing demand for longer-range and more efficient EVs, particularly in the premium segment.

Powering Future Mercedes Electric SUVs and Coupes

Mercedes-Benz plans to integrate these batteries into its next-generation lineup of compact and mid-size electric SUVs and coupe-style models. The move supports the automaker’s broader strategy to expand its EV portfolio and compete more aggressively in the global electric vehicle market.

By leveraging high-performance battery technology, Mercedes aims to improve both efficiency and driving experience in its future models.

Strategic Collaboration Beyond Supply

The partnership goes beyond a simple supplier agreement. Both companies have indicated plans to deepen cooperation in future mobility technologies, including the joint development of next-generation battery systems.

This collaborative approach reflects a broader industry trend, where automakers and battery manufacturers work closely to accelerate innovation, reduce costs, and improve performance.

Strengthening Position in the Global EV Market

For Samsung SDI, the agreement represents a significant milestone in expanding its presence among top-tier automotive brands. Securing a long-term deal with a premium manufacturer like Mercedes-Benz strengthens its position in the rapidly evolving EV battery sector.

As competition intensifies among battery suppliers, partnerships like this highlight the importance of advanced chemistry, safety innovation, and scalable production capabilities in shaping the future of electric mobility.
